I Hate Group Work

In real life, at least your group work will represent something... if you fuck up, you don't get paid. That simple. Hopefully your groupmates are smart enough to realize this.

UNFORTUNATELY, IN COLLEGE PEOPLE STILL AREN'T SMART ENOUGH TO REALIZE THAT GROUP WORK MATTERS!!! I get good grades... so why do I always end up in situations where my groupmates are fucking incompetent slackasses?!?!?!

I'm in a programming class, and my groupmates are in the IT program... so you'd THINK that they'd want to do WELL in their fucking programming classes!!!! BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Why would you want to do well in a class? I've done almost ALL of the work myself b/c neither of the two stupid fucks know how to write code. At least I got the one slackass to do all of the "documentation" with the binder we have to turn in for the project... but the other one, he doesn't come to class, he doesn't show up for groupwork times, and he doesn't do the simple fucking things I ask him to!!!! Then he goes around mouthing off about how I'm a bitch b/c I keep asking him to do shit... FOR HIS OWN FUCKING PROJECT!!!! Well, if I don't light a fucking 40' bonfire under his ass, HE DOESN'T DO ANYTHING!!!!

Then, today he doesn't show up. We were supposed to have a mostly-functioning project to show our prof, and since he didn't show up yesterday to work on the project, we had basically nothing... at least we have until Wednesday to fix the project, but now we are riding on a technicality to get the project done instead of doing it legit.

I'm so fucking fuming mad right now and I had to get some of it out of my system so I can restrain myself from hitting him when I see him later.

Try and explain it to your prof. and see if maybe he will let you try and make up for it with your own project without anyone else fuckin' it up.

Usually when those situations occur you can actually say something to the professor and tell him that the other guy ain't doing shit. But, if the professor is an asshole he will say: If one of you doesn't do anything you all flunk.

If the professor is cool: Okay then, I will grade on individual efforts and not on group.

Usually that's what most of the professors in my university tell us. If one person isn't doing shit, just tell them and they will give them the F happily.

tangie, hit him anyway. He'll get what's coming to him, and you'll feel better. If he hits you back, introduce him to Dave ;)

Whenever I ran into someone like that I usually intimidated him by suggesting that I'd shove a hockey stick up his ass if he didn't get to work.

It worked for me.


If outright intimidation doesn't do the trick, do as Strider says, have the rest of the group talk with the proff. If she's halfway decent, she'll take everything into account when doing the final grade.

Yes, I know it's a lame excuse, but problems with groups is part of the education process....it trains you to motivate people and deal with co workers in the real world. Don't just hide or whine to the prof. Deal with it. As you have the superior intellect, you will be able to solve it.

Welcome to real life.There are about 50 people doing 'groupwork' with me,and our efforts are consistently being brought down by the piss poor attitude of half a dozen or so non-performers.While it is fair to say in theory that the useless get fired,in real life that doesn't happen if the guy at the top is one of their number.

1-go to professor, if you cant change the asshole see if you can cut him out of the equasion like a cancer

if the professor wont let you,

2-try to motivate him, see what motivates him, praise, force, insults?

if that dosent work

3-beat the living motherfucking shit outa him....at least youll feel better about an F :icon16:

I know what that situation is like, it was basically middle school, high school and college for me....untill I went into some police classes where if they fuck up they get shot.

I am in that situation right now, with my familes and aging class, seems like the only two people that do work are me and this girl collen, the rest like to fuck off, so I will give them a big fuck you, when it comes down to evaluation time, dont worru everyone goes through it
