A question of "ethics" as it were

Ok so I work for a bunch of doctors, and these doctors are frequently visited by drug reps, who tell them all kinds of stuff about the meds they deal. They bring us stuff, give us lunch etc. I have been thinking about trying to get a sponsorship from one of these companies to get my little hatch tricked out, and in exchange of course put their product name on the car somehow and or use their "product colors" and then go to every car show within a certain distance as a part of the sponsorship agreement. After a predetermined period fo time, I would be free to repaint the car and remove logos and only go to whatever events I wanted. The benefit for them, TONS of commercial visibility and me giving out pamphlets etc. The benefit for me, my car gets tricked out like a mo fo for free. What do y'all think, should I try to look into a sponsorship or should I avoid it?

They probably wouldn't do that but you never know, it can't hurt to try, can it?

You'd almost definitely have the first showcar sponsored by a pharmacutical company...

Come to think of it though, I'm sure a lot of showcar's are probably sponsored by pharmacuticals of one form or another - just not advertised :evillol:

ummm, isn't there a viagra car in NASCAR?

i really try to not watch that..however, jer does. it's kinda hard to miss something like VIAGRA going over 200+mph in a circle :evillol:

i say go for what you know. what's the worst that will happen? they say "no"...it's up to you if the possible "no" is worth it.

The pharmaceutical companies have a terrible reputation. Accepting any money or sponsorship with them will spell the death of any political ambitions you might ever have. There's a tremendous backlash building up against them in this country, where we pay the highest prices in the world.
Part of that backlash might include the vandalization of your car by someone who can't afford the medications he needs to stay alive.
Is it really worth it? Wouldn't you rather keep your self-respect and maintain control over your project car? Because you'll lose everything if you accept anything from them.
Also, later in life, if you publish anything in a respected journal, your motives will be trashed because it will look like you sold out.
Don't go to the dark side.

PS-Believe me: nothing they ever do is "free".

I have no political ambitions, I leave politics to be taken care of by lesser life forms.

Actually you can thank your medical insurance premiums. You can also thank the FDA for establishing such rigorous standards that medicine must pass before you can stuff it down your pie hole.

The pharmaceuticals that my clinic deals with have to do with the gastrointestinal system. Things like Prilosec, Nexium, Prevacid, Invanz, and Zelnorm. These are not "life or death" medications.

Well since you obviously don't have to worry about the cost of performance parts and body mods and stereo's, send me over about $25G and I'll pimp my ride out. Oh wait, you're not independantly wealthy, hmm...

Also, later in life, if you publish anything in a respected journal, your motives will be trashed because it will look like you sold out.

You don't have to worry about me publishing anything, because I said I WORK WITH doctors, not am a doctor. If I was makin their kind of money, I wouldn't be worrying about a car, I'd be saving my money to pay for my malpractice insurance premiums, since in most states there is no cap for so called "pain and suffering" which requires no justification or answer form the awarding party.

Don't go to the dark side.

Well I've never gotten a bill for the lunches they brought us. As a matter of fact, the luau themed lunch we just got last month was entitled "employee appreciation luau" and the reps didn't even bring a single thing with their company name on it, not even the Nexium pens I so love to collect.

Have you ever actually looked into how much it costs to research and develop a medicine? It takes years upon years just to get the FDA to allow you to do clinical trials, regardless of how promising your results are. Before you start slinging mud you might make your actual position in the scheme of things known.

As far as vandalism goes, if they need a medication to stay alive and can't get it, odds are they are gonna be too fucking sick to get out of their house/hospital bed, or frantically searching for money to get it, and wouldn't want to bother with my car.

When I asked what do you think, I wasn't asking for a lecture or attempted guilt trip. Save your guilt and lectures for your children should the rest of the world be unfortunate enough for you to procreate and spread your monumental capacity for abstract thought to others.

As for the rest of you, thanks for the replies. If I'm lucky, I'll find sponsorship with Astra-Zeneca, and wind up painting my car a sweet shade of purple with gold accenting. www.purplepill.com

I think personally its worth a shot, but definately get another car. I would assume that if you did get sponsered, there would be a lot of downtime as far as shop work and car shows and shit, so just a nice little DD (crx ) would be in order

Shop time isn't an issue, I've got a pair of mechanics on hand and a full service shop available.
