H22 Swap

Does anyone know if it is possible, to swap a JDM 97-01 prelude motor into a 92-95 civic hatchback? I heard a bigger motor like that one can effect your stearing, is that true, and how would it do on emissions in california? Any info would help. Thanks.

It throws off the natural weight of the car, but the swap is doable but a HUGE PITA.

You have to crush a few panels and I believe relocate your battery. Its not a direct swap. You would be better off getting a B series Swap, its a lot easier and more cost efficient.

H22 on a Civic is difficult and not worth it. It causes alot of understeer from the weight imbalance. Leave the H series for Accords and Preludes.

I agree, unless you're looking for the motor to go into a drag car just swap in a B and call it a day (or weekend). But you don't have to crush any panels or relocate the battery (i believe in a crx or 88-91 civic you do though). You do however have to cut the tranny mount bracket and drill out the smaller hole, cut the shiftlinkage hole bigger, and probably bend the lines on the firewall to clear the intake manifold. Not to mention custom axles, mounts, better suspension.

Yeah, I agree with all of you, the H22 just sounded appealing because of the 200hp, and the 160+Touque, but I know B Series engines engines are good as well. I'd probably go with a GSR or Type R motor, they are just a little more expensive, but it probably balances itself off later without the car being inbalanced, and relocating the battery, etc... Thank you very much for the info though.

how about if i were to get a 90-93, or a 94-01 integra, would it be as much trouble?

Stiffer springs up front, larger rear sway bar, and add ballast to the rear(ie. battery and something else that weights ~40lbs.) You can tune the extra 80 pounds from the engine out of the handling if you want something besides a drag car. However I say just stick with the b-series in Civics and Tegs unless its a K20.

Just as much if not worse
