AMD athalon 2100+
MSI K7 motherboard
So ..i try to start my computer this morning, but the CPU fan bearings are shot, and i have the computer shit down ASAP. No big deal, right, i just go to compusa and get a new one. I ended yp getting an 80mm fan with an 80mm->60mm adaptor piece to fit onto the heatsink.
The problem is, the computer doesnt recognize the new fan (?) and doesnt want to start, unless i have the old fan plugged into the CPU fan power outlet. How do i fix it so that i dont have to have this noisy usless POS plugged in? Thanks.

These fans are all just plug and play. Maybe you just bought a bad fan.

Does the new fan use the same power connector as the old fan? If so, are you using the same power terminal on the mainboard that the old fan was using?
MBTN's right though - you just plug them in. They either work or they don't.
