Coins in the CD Player... HELP!!!

I own a 2004 Sienna LE with the standard radio/tape/CD package (single CD player, not the 6-disc changer). Recently, our daughter decided to feed some highway tokens :2cents: into anywhere they would fit; in the tape deck, the CD Player, and possibly elsewhere. I managed to remove 2 coins from the tape deck, which looks like it's clear now, but the CD Player is giving me problems; When I try to load a CD, it goes in about 9/10 of the way, then gets spit out again. Presumably, a coin is in there preventing the CD from loading. What's worse, I tried to fish out the coin with straightened paperclips and some Index cards, and in the process I must have done something to the levers which sense the presence of a CD, because now it continuously attempts to load a disc. This means that annoying mechanical motor noise goes on while we try to listen to a tape or the radio. Argh!!!
So apart from keeping our daughter out of the driver's seat until she's 16, what can we do to get this working again? I called the dealer, and they send radio units out for repair. They charge $67 to remove (and presumably reinstall) the radio, then it's a 2-3 week wait and at least a $180 bench fee for getting the unit looked at. Unacceptable. I called parts and asked about a new cd player, and they quoted me about $400. (I assume this is in addition to the 2 x $67 installation fee).

I'd like to try to remove the cd player from my dash and perform a "give me all your lunch money" shake. Can anyone explain how to do this, or where I can get detailed instructions? I am not much of a car mechanic, so it is not worth it to me to purchase the schematics (presumably several hundred dollars?).

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that someone here can keep us from having to shell out big money for a little mistake. One other thought: We purchased the platinum extended warranty directly through Toyota; would this be covered?

I believe my son has done the same with our Cd player in our sienna as well... any updates on your search? I just reserved a time at my local toyota dealer to check ... but after reading your post am wondering if you have dfound any other options.

You may try your local radio dealer ie: circuit city or best buy, they may not charge as much to remove the radio and check it out and then reinstall it. Or look in the yellow pages under car audio, they might be able to lend a hand. I have not removed a radio from this type of vehicle but have installed many in the past, they are not hard, just be carful removing the plastic trim, it usually just pops right off, but check for hidden screws if it does not come off easily. Then just remove the 4 screws that hold the radio to the dash and disconnect the plugs. hope this helps.
