Radiator Fans

My fans wouldn't turn on even if the temp gauge was HOT, so I bypassed the sensor on the radiator, but only 1 fan would turn on. The big one on the passenger side of the car would turn on, but the smaller one wouldn't. Is this small fan controlled by somthing else, or should I consider replacing it? If it is controlled by something else, what is it and where is it located?

do u have a/c? i think that's what the smaller one if for, i have an 83 civic with no a/c and i only have the one big fan

find the cable that goes to the smaller fan (a/c fan) cut it, then check it with your battery... if it runs.. buy an on/off switch.. hook it up (if you know how) and presto!!! you can control your fan with the flip of a switch...(you know...for those hotter days....) hope any thing i said was of any help....
