CD Changer Error Messages

I purchased a used VW CD Changer (6 discs) that was installed at the dealer. However, I'm getting an "Error 1" message. What does this mean?

I'm not sure if that's the clarion made changer. If so code 1 means the battery inside the changer needs to be replaced.

I don't know if it is a Clarion or not. It is the typical VW CD changer (VW logo and all), that VW installs in dealers. Other signs of my CD Changer troubles are: constant skipping in spite of driving over smooth surfaces and I've seen a tendency to give Error 1 message when the CD unit get hot. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

There were a couple of manufacturers that VW used over the years, you might have to openit up to find a marking. Try on of those CD-ROM laser optics cleaners (little brush mounted on a CD), you can get them at Best Buy or Offfice Depot type stores.

Are you using burned CDs... If so, try reloading the CDs.
