i know this isn't camaro related by you guys seem to be experienced so...
my friend just bought, and plans to race a late model on the weekends, he's in the process of putting it together and just got the motor not too long ago. he tells me it's a 358 chevy, i'm asuming 350 bored over? anyway the top end of the motor looks like trick flow parts, heads, intake etc. msd ignition with a dual feed car sitting on top but not sure. he says it was dynoed at a little over 500hp by the previous owner. well, i know pretty much nothing about late models so does that seem anywhere close to what a late model engine would put out? seems a little steep for a naturally asperated and non stroked engine, but like i said, i dont know shit bout late models. if he is right, i think i'm in the wrong business.

umm, i dont know about it being a 358. that would mean that its a 350 bored 50 over. thats not a commen size if anyone even does it. i could be wrong. ask him how much its bored over. if its 30 over its a 355, 40 over = 356, and 60 over=360. those are the commen over bore sizes for a 350. when you go 60 over thats about all you can get and its usualy not concided the best but thats what mine is.

as for it being dynoed at 500 thats posible. its very posible. 400 has become a normal amout of power from a 350 nowdays. i have seen many 350s around the 500 area. its probably not going to be the most streetable engine if thats what he is planning, but for a drag only car thats very posible. if you had more info on the cam and valve train it would be alot easier to say wether thats right or not. but like i said it is posible.

ya that's what i didn't get, i've never heard of a 358. i can tell you tho that it is or was a 350sb pre 86 anyway. oh and sorry for the confusion, it's a late model car for dirt track (giant monte carlo on a tube chassy) i dont know cam specs or compression i'll have to ask him, tho i doubt he knows either. i guess if he was up around 11:1 comp with 1:6 rockers he could get that much

ridge_runner
04-22-2004, 08:01 PM
yea i agree, i also have a 350 bored 60 over, its still in pieces, but do you kno what kinda pistons he has? and compression, 358 is a weird number, i had another 350 that was also bored 60 over, puttin out around 400 hp. but the block was cracked, so anything possible

ridge_runner
04-22-2004, 08:02 PM
i think it was close to 450, i was told around 458 to be exact but not sure

Now I've got an off topic question.
If your dog would follow you to hell and back, would that obligate you to do the same for him?

ridge_runner
04-22-2004, 08:16 PM
haha, depends what you call hell

Genopsyde
04-22-2004, 08:18 PM
No, the dog made his own choice. You, as an individual and an american citizen, have the right to make your own choices and follow your own paths in life. age old saying "if your friend jumps off a bridge, are you gonna do it too?"

68chevelle
04-22-2004, 08:21 PM
is there water under the bridge?

ridge_runner
04-22-2004, 08:21 PM
hell yea id jump off a bridge as long as theres water under it

Not too sure on his "late model" either. He sounds like a cocky bastard that just wants to make everyone belive that hes an automotive genius thats actually insecure about himself so he will manipulate everyone into thinking hes all that and a bag of chips!

ridge_runner
04-22-2004, 10:15 PM
"late models" arnt all that different then the "newer models"

Twin89s
04-22-2004, 11:38 PM
I am looking around 430 or so hp at the crank with stock style 461 heads... just a semi aggressive lunati bracket master II cam 0012

68chevelle
04-22-2004, 11:58 PM
Twin89s... have you had your car dynoed? cuz that seems a little high.

crapmaster4000
04-23-2004, 12:04 AM
What are the validity of your posts twin 89's, I would say you have the shits soo bad that you dont know where to put it.

68chevelle
04-23-2004, 12:10 AM
iv been getting the same idea as crapmaster. im starting to doubt twin89s honesty.

Twin89s
04-23-2004, 12:23 AM
no dyno as the engine is in the garage as far as how valid it is I only have the #'s from desktop dyno...

If you wish I can provide you all the info on my combo.
But the heads are ported and polished
the cam is aggressive
etc...

other than that why do I have to prove shit to someone named crapmaster? Many boards know of my combo many boards have seen my combo in person. Hell I bought the combo from many boards....

4onFloor
04-23-2004, 12:32 AM
wow i leave for 2 hours and now there's dogs jumping off bridges and crapmasters talking about the shits. lol

Twin89s
04-23-2004, 12:41 AM
here...

1991 Corvette L98 Shortblock with windage tray
1967 Chevy 461 heads (57cc) 2.02/1.64 valve ported polished (about 180cc's)
Lunati bracket master II cam (0012 for those wondering)
Solid lifters
hedmenn super comp headers
Mufflex Y pipe
Edelbrock performer RPM intake manifold
Holley Double Pumper 750cfm (81 jet front 78 jet rear)
Compressions is roughly 10.2:1 compression
Scorpion 1.7 roller rockers

and yes I have taken into account this is a flat tappet cam that I am putting into a roller block. I already have the pushrods lifters etc...
do the desktop dyno on it yourself then talk shit!

68chevelle
04-23-2004, 12:42 AM
i would like the info on your combo. because i just guessed and what i cam up with was far less than the power you were talking about.

Twin89s
04-23-2004, 12:43 AM
posted already
http://www.team3rdgen.com/albums/Twin89s-Album/Pic0003_1.sized.jpg

yes I know the headers on the engine are not super comps those are my shorty hedmenns I am selling pretty soon here. The Super Comps are ordered.

68chevelle
04-23-2004, 12:43 AM
umm 1 question. why are you running solid lifters on a cam that is a hydralic cam?

Twin89s
04-23-2004, 12:46 AM
its a hydraulic flat tappet cam. Instead of running the hydraulic flat tappet I am running solid flat tappet lifters. it gives a bit more power.

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=LUN%2D00012LK

68chevelle
04-23-2004, 12:49 AM
ok i could see that maybe. but the max power i get is still only 400.

Twin89s
04-23-2004, 12:50 AM
Take into account for the increased lift and increased air flow.
Also figure in for the super comp long tube headers. The exhaust is basically free flow. I havent ordered it yet but I am putting on a 4 inch cat back with the new motor. the 461's are ported and polished. Lift I believe should be like .550-.570

68chevelle
04-23-2004, 12:52 AM
so you dont know how to figure out the lift when you change rockes do you? oh and where did you get the 1.7 rockers anyway?

68chevelle
04-23-2004, 12:53 AM
oh and is that the intake your running in that pic?

Twin89s
04-23-2004, 12:53 AM
yeah its a dual plane edelbrock performer RPM
Scorpion makes 1.7 roller rockers for SBC thats where I got them ordered them through a local speed shop

4onFloor
04-23-2004, 12:54 AM
what lifters did you use in that roller block? not doubting just asking

Twin89s
04-23-2004, 12:58 AM
they are lunati lifters they were like 90 bux.

68chevelle
04-23-2004, 01:00 AM
is it just me or is that carb on the intake backwards.

ridge_runner
04-23-2004, 01:02 AM
lol it is

Twin89s
04-23-2004, 01:03 AM
hahaha yeah it is. Its just sitting on there. Notice no bolts. it came off of a ford. So it was setup a bit different. Just havent taken the time to put the new parts on it and set it up for a chevy.

68chevelle
04-23-2004, 01:03 AM
i knew something looked funny.

Twin89s
04-23-2004, 01:06 AM
lol yeah its just all sitting together right now. havent ordered the gaskets yet. Thinking about going with a thin steel mesh head gasket on it. Wanting to try and get 10.5 to 10.7 compression and I know if I go with a thinner head gasket I might be able to get it.

ridge_runner
04-23-2004, 01:06 AM
yea i see that, i figured you just slapped it on there for the pic, but it looks like if you jus turn it around it should work fine, is the linkage on the carb different or something

68chevelle
04-23-2004, 01:08 AM
ok now you have some explaning to do. when you listed what you had you listed that the jetting is 81 up front and 78 in the rear. now if you look at the carb in the picture, it has the jetting wrighten on the floab bowls. and it says 81 on one side and 78 on the other. now if you know how it was really saposed to be you would have stated that the jets were 78 up front and 81 in the rear as if the carb was turned around sitting corectly. i think your blowen smoke.

Twin89s
04-23-2004, 01:09 AM
eehh it was the way the guy had it setup on his ford. He said it was sitting beside another one sideways. Not sure on that... dual 750's is kind of nuts... but eh why not I guess... the carb was only 75 bux and is in great shape! lol yeah its pretty much together for shit talkers and such. That and putting everything together helps protect shit...

Twin89s
04-23-2004, 01:10 AM
For fucking crying out loud I will go turn the damn thing around and take another fucking pic. its suppose to be 81 up front and 78 rear is what I am told the jetting I need is suppose to be.

68chevelle
04-23-2004, 01:12 AM
by the way if you know what rockers did they multiply the actualy lift of the cam. most cams listed for sbc's are listed with the lift for 1.5 rockers, unless otherwise stated. now when you run 1.7's you would devide the advertised lift by 1.5, to find the cams actualy lift, and them multiple that number by 1.7. with your spacific cam you said it would net a total value of .583 lift.

ridge_runner
04-23-2004, 01:13 AM
haha

68chevelle
04-23-2004, 01:14 AM
even if you turn the carb around it still doesnt change the fact that the numbers you stated are right on the float bowls.

Twin89s
04-23-2004, 01:15 AM
Bought the cam from a friend its new but minus a box and yes I know its a lunati and its a bracket master. he wouldnt screw me over. I will admit to being new to some of this stuff (mainly to some of the carb world). figure it is rated at 1.5 but not sure. It didnt come with any paper work.

68chevelle
04-23-2004, 01:24 AM
well you put up the link to summer racing. it says what it is right there. you keep saying stuff about jegs and summit, its almost like you just keep putting out info that you have herd/read. i dont mean to be a dick, i know i come across like that, but i dont like when people state incorect info. now i am not perfect by any means, i cant spell to save my life, but i will debate something with someone and then call them on it if i feel i can.

68chevelle
04-23-2004, 01:25 AM

humm, so is that your age or IQ?

Twin89s
04-23-2004, 01:34 AM
its me annoyed.

and age is 22. and IQ is enough. Dont talk shit. And dont talk shit about IQ when you yourself cant fucking spell correctly.

68chevelle
04-23-2004, 01:36 AM
so what does IQ have to do with being able to spell. By the way you should not talk shit when you dont know what your talking about, your still never gunna be able to explane why you said the jets with the carb backwards.

Twin89s
04-23-2004, 01:39 AM
For one its lack of sleep. For 2 its just getting mixxed up talking to my buddy for 3 I actually fucked up on the #'s one is 81 the other is 73 which means its jetted too small.

And your the one who keeps stirring up shit even after I posted proof I have the shit. Which is more than I can say for you at this point. If you wish to argue thats fine but I am done. If you want to keep on going I suggest you put your head between your legs and start yelling at your own ass!

ridge_runner
04-23-2004, 01:42 AM
ehh fuck it, y not go pull the bowls off and take a pic of the jets itself lol

68chevelle
04-23-2004, 01:46 AM
no see your not getting it. you said, "Holley Double Pumper 750cfm (81 jet front 78 jet rear)". now im talking about the 81 up front and 78 rear. now if you look at the carb now, after we pointed out it was on backwards, (no big), but if you knew how the carb went you would have said what size they were if the carb was on corretly. 78, front, not rear as you stated,(i know like you said it is actualy 73 but im just using your original numbers so no one gets confused) and 81 rear, not front.

Twin89s

Ok now if I remember right i was told bigger # front smaller # rear.
I think.... ggrr... i am a fucking ford fuel injection 2.3 Turbo guy....
I am going by what I have been told. Yes I knew know whatever it was backwards. But i was told bigger # front smaller # rear.
