Whats wrong with resurrecting threads?

I dont understand the problem with posting in a thread after no one has replied for awhile.

If they are really old - months or even years, some of the members in there may not even be around anymore to respond too. In these cases, start a new thread about the topic and see if anyone is interested in carring on the conversation.
Topics that are a week or two old is debatable weather it should be brought back up. Sometimes those are ok and sometimes not. Pretend that you've been around for a long time and ask yourself if you'd want to see the topic again.
Remember, its only new to you and not to everyone else who frequents the forum. So just don't do it.
See the user guidelines for do's and don'ts.

That seems really odd to me. If someone doesn't want to read it, then they don't have to. Maybe someone has important information to add, and it fits in really well with what has already been said.
I think that it is worse to have a whole buch of threads on the same topic.

Nothing odd about it at all. With a forum that has ten thousand or more threads, we don't want the new ones getting burried under a ton of old ones because a new member wants to make a comment.
Its ok to post into a thread that may be several days old, but not one that is long gone.

It's not always events. If someone had needed info, and you have more to add to it, I think that should be alright. Even if the person has already fixed their problem, others might find your additional info helpfull or interresting.
Just think about it.

Old thread = older than 3 months.
A month olf thread in a forum which is as slow as this one isn't exactly old.
The one's we're talking about are when the thread is that old that it's got a totally different year in the date of the last post, those aren't good to resurrect.

Old thread in Car Modeling, two weeks (you have to go back about 6 pages). It depends on the forum you frequent here.

I still disagree Mike, while the Car Modelling forum is extremely active, it can still be a valid thread, especially if it's a build up thread.
I know you're pretty hooked on your build up of the Hot Rod, if you don't update it for 2 weeks and somebody posts to ask how you're going with it, would you mind if I locked it since by your standard it's an old thread?

Yes I understand where you're coming from. Its all judgement. What I had previously stated is an exaggeration, a hyperbole at that.
