I have a 1994 Ranger 3.0L V6 with 106K miles, I have been having problems getting it to start if I turn it off after driving for a bit (i.e. Stopping for gas, etc...). Once the engine cools, it cranks right up! I had a friend reccommend replacing the ignition coil, (I swapped it out but still having problems)....Any suggestions?

Thanks

Could be some kind of vapor lock in fuel line. Can you hear the fuel pump run for about 5-10 seconds when you first turn on the key when hot? When it does it again make sure you are getting fuel, there's a fuel pump relay that could also be getting hot & tripping fuel pump.Good Luck!

Hello Bushbaby, I had same problem with my Ranger, took it to PEP boys and after $350.00 of repairs. Drove to gas station, filled up, truck would not start. Had to have it tow back to PeP boys that night, next morning truck started right up. Told them to run truck to it got hot. Under the hood there is a box that holds fuses and (3) small square relays, One for the air conditioner, one for the engine or fuel pump and one for the EFI system. The EFI relay would stick open and truck would not start until it cooled down and closed. Relay is about $7.00. Truck been running since. Now I need freeze plugs in the engine and can"t locate them. I hope this helps.

you need to figure out if it's missing fuel or spark when it won't start. the relay might be your problem, can you hear the fuel pump run for a few secs when the key is turned to run? do you hear the pump run when cranking(prolly have get someone else to crank it with an ear by the tank). if you don't get spark but the pump runs it's most likely the TFI module. if the pump doesn't run while cranking check the relay, wiring to pump, if these are good you probably have a bad PIP(pickup ignition profile) sensor.
good luck!!
