Traction Control on 2wd

I'm thinking about buying a 2004 (extended cab) Silverado - however, I'm a college student and don't have very much money as it is. I live in Virginia and would never use 4x4 EXCEPT when we get snow. I'm wondering how well the 2wd traction control system w/ locking rear diff. actually works in light snow (like 1-6 inches).

I would get the 4WD anyways, you never know...if you do get the 2WD, put some sandbags in the back or you'll be fishtailing. The amount of snow that falls doesn't mean anything, it's the ice you have to worry about.

If your trying to save money buy a used 4x4, you can purchase one with more options and low miles for less than a Brand new 2 wheel drive model, I dont go off road in mine but the 4 wheel drive is nice here in New England when the snow gets really deep, I throw 4 50lb bags of sand in my other truck which is 2wd and it does alright, you just have to be more careful when accelerating. It also depends on what you plan to do with your truck, Performance Add ons, Highway driving etc.. The 2wd will get better mileage than the 4wd.

I have a 2WD Silverado Ext. cab, I was in the same boat, not too much income, and not too much really bad snow here in Philly that some sandbags cant take care of. A 4x4 would just use up too much gas and be added weight. The only thing that sucks about 2wd in the snow in the city is the parallel parking spots that are all plowed in. Its hard to get in and out of, but i just threw a large pice of cement reinforcement mesh in the bed and threw it under my wheles when I got stuck. Hope this helps.
