I attended a tecnical workshop for automotives. The discussion in the morning was the ups and downs of fuel injected vehicles using the K&N filters. The MAS gets burned out when coated in the oil and makes incorrect readings and leads to running too leanor too rich. I figure thats where my troubles as of lately in the performance of my car. I figure my car is running rich cus on the hot days its been consistantly blowing alot of visable vapour out the tail pipe just like on really cold days. Now I am a fan of the K&N filters and all , but it costed me a couple MAS and some new problems like the running rich , a quick suggestion on perhaps a MAS for using with a K&N filter. (Only reason I like K&N so much is cus its a all evironment filter) Thanks for any info

Well just don't over oil the filter. Then you shouldn't have a problem. What year and engine is your car?

The test were based off of a brand new filter out of the box. The cfms were the same as paper as well. The oil film that builds up isnt always visible but its guaranteed to be there. Its an off roading filter mostly , people dont even know its doing absolutely nothing for them except that they can hear a difference and then mind thinks hear more have more power. Unless your engine sucks more than 700 cfm's its not going to gain you hp.

I have the 3400 sfi LA1 V6 12 valve SEP and since I found that info out im working on a mas filter to keeper ungunked for longer periods of time when using the k&n filter(Im pretty sure my engine sucks just over 700 cfm's) so I can use the 1-2 hp gain.

Also an easy step for cleaning the Maf is to just spray brake clean on the elements, just don't spay it full blast. You can either spray it off on the car, or take it off and do it off the car.

I use 99% isopropyl it works too , but its too late the coils burned out.

That is odd. They shouldn't burn out. Maybe the old ones because after then engine was shut off they would get red hot (to burn off any impurities). I don't think the new ones do this. . huh odd.
