I traded my factory wheels w/285's on them for a set of factory wheels with 265's. THe rims I got look horrible, they are all scratched up, dont shine well, and I think the clear coat is coming off in some places. Does anyone know how i can make them look good again? Certain cleaner/polish do the trick?

Jayson sounds like you got hosed =( , Mothers makes a wheel cleaner that works well on clearcoated wheels, My old S-10 blazer had the same problem and nothing worked, I eventually bought a new set of rims because the old ones looked so bad. I have the Chrome chevy rims on my truck and they clean up nice with the mothers chrome polish, good Luck Jayson!

Thanks man. I confronted the guy last night about them, and he said that we'd swap wheels only. I don't care about the tires, I'd rather have the 265's for the gas mileage right now, but I DO want my wheels back. If not, I know where he lives lol!

Ya I'd be pissed my wheels dont have a scratch on them, Im constantly polishing them.. Its too bad people dont take care of their shit, and then try to pawn it off on others... I Hope you get your wheels back..

I knew the previous truck owner had given the truck hell, he'd wrecked it like 5 times, and he was an avid coon-hunter, but I didn't think they were damaged that bad. I noticed them while we were swapping, and brought it to his attention and let him know that I wanted mine back. Let me go hunt down a camera and I'll snap some pics real quick.

Ok, Heres the pics. THese are both drivers side wheels.
I've circled the flaws in the clear coat I mentioned in Red. In Yellow, are the scratches(that are damn deep) that go around the whole wheel, on every wheel. It's not as obvious on some as the others.

if you are stuck with these wheels, you can try polishing compound on the scratches.Don't use use rubbing compound it is too abrasive and will probably make things worse. As for the clear coat you only option maybe to use acid to clean the wheels then reclear coat them.

Not too worried about the clear, unless that makes a big difference. I'll try the polishing compound for now until I can get mine back...

It seems like I buy or trade for stuff that other people have abused or mistreated and have learned that a good cleaning and polishing then use rattle can clear lacuer to reapply the clear coat ,they might not be new but will look tons better
