66 covertible w/ 302 need some help

I have a 66 covertible but it has a 302 in it not 289. was wondering if where to look to see what type of 302 and or possibly figure out what year it is from(if that really makes a difference) have very little mechanical knowledge but really want to start spending some time working on this thing. any help would be greatly appreciated.

go buy a book on Windsor motor performance. it'll tell you a lot. somewhere on the block, usually under one of the cylinder banks on the outside, is the casting number. that'll tell you what year the block is. also, start reading as many mustang and hipo magazines as you can, i learned 90% of the bullshit i know just from that. good luck!
