What precautions for '96 LS with 145K?

I have a stock (except for the 17" rims) '96 Integra LS sedan with about 145,000 miles on it. It has always been a big temptation to screw with it and pump up the power, but I've been a "responsible adult" and haven't given in to temptation. But now that the miles are creeping up there my willpower is eroding and I figure if I'm ever gonna mess with the thing, I'd better do it before it starts crapping out.
Now I'm no drag racer, and I have no need for a 400hp rice rocket. I want to keep using the car as an everyday commuter, but I just want a bit more kick when I step on the gas. I think I'd be pretty happy with something in the 220-240hp range, and if I could get there without tearing the whole engine apart I'd be very happy. I've been doing research on the various options, and right now I'm leaning toward the Vortech supercharger kit (yes, turbo boys, I realize you'll "own" me on the 1/4 mile. Now ask me if I care. :) It seems like it would fit my needs pretty well. I'm just afraid the engine might already have too many miles to handle it.
So my question is are there any modifications I should do first or precautions to take to make sure I don't blow the engine straight to hell and back? Or can the engine take it as-is? Almost all the miles are freeway, by the way, and the car has been well maintained. I love my Integra, and I'd feel awful if I sent it to an early grave, so any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

IMO with nearly 150k miles on the engine it's not worth dumping cash into it. Unless you want to rebuild engine first and then drop some cams/gears and i/h/e maybe hondata ECU etc.

D'oh. Guess I waited a bit too long. Then again, I already have one speeding ticket with the sucker stock. If I made it any faster I'd probably lose my license!
