I own a 2001 Nissan Maxima GLE.

Can Someone please tell me HOW MANY OXYGEN SENSORS THE CAR HAS?

I am getting approximately 14 miles per gallon right now (I'm crying).

Which BRAND is the best to buy? I HAVE TO CHANGE THIS IMMEDIATELY, BECAUSE THE GAS IS KILLING MY POCKETS.

I don't know if its anything like a 4th gen, but if its a Fed Spec. Then there are 3. one in each manifold and one in the Cat. Cali spec. has 4 I believe. I used Bosche sensors.

Is there anything else that would contribute to poor gas mileage? anyone who can offer advise please?

I AM ONLY GETTING 220 MILES ON A FULL TANK ON A 2001 NISSAN MAXIMA GLE.
My wife drives it, she has a very light foot, and travels with the baby.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME, I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO. IS IT THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR?

Faulty knock sensor. It won't trip the CEL but it will show up as a ghost code when you read your ECU codes. If the car is sorta sluggish when you floor it, KS is a pretty good candidiate for replacement.

2001 went with 4 o2's fed and cal. replacing o2's or the knock sensor won't help fuel mileage. If o2's aren't working right it will fire a code and CEL. The car might be running rich because of dirt in the mass airflow sensor

$120 shipped at Jerry Rome Nissan after the discount "MAXIMA" My local dealership wanted $65 to install it. You can DIY if you have the right tools.

P.S. And faulty KS/O2 WILL result in terrible fuel economy

KS- Knock sensor

O2 sensors analyze your exhaust composition and provide feedback to the ECU to adjust the a/f mixture.

Yep, ECU is the engine control unit and is also referred to as a PCM, powertrain control module. To get the codes to show up (in a 4th gen), turn your ignition to the "On" position. Remove the plastic cover by the accelerator (held on by two plastic screws. Insert a small screwdriver into the side of the ECU and turn the screw clockwise until it stops. Be VERY careful to not overturn as it'll screw up the ECU. Then, turn it back all the way, again, being careful to not overturn. Watch your Check Engine Light (CEL) and it will be flashing at you. Count the number of rapid flashes and the number of long flashes. Each set of flashes is two digits of your ECU code. To reset the ECU, repeat the turning process.
