Just wondering if any of you have experience with it. If I remember correctly, talskinyguy has it. I in no way have the money to get it, and it isn't even high on my list of future mods, but I was just interested in gaining more info/1st hand experience to expand my knowledge. Thanks, Geoff

More or less, I just wanted to know the basics, I've heard that it is superior to all other piggybacks/tuning devices, that it encompasses the functions of all other piggybacks, that it allows for tuning on all turbo/injector/intake setups, but that it is also difficult to tune. I was just wondering what your opinion of it is. Pros, cons, etc. Do you need a laptop on top of it? Just basically anything like that. I have read the descriptions on various sites, but I was wondering what your experience with it has been.

It does require a laptop to use it and has sooo many features it will make your head spin. I dont have my car running yet so I cant comment too much on how hard it is to get working. Damn TD05 headers taking so long.
The reason I decided to go with the AEM EMS was price. When I added up everything I needed to do the same thing as the EMS the EMS ended up cheeper, and being its one unit that controls everything it will end up running much smoother when its all said and done. Plus I dont mind spending the extra time to learn how to use it, and Im not afraid of breaking anything.

Sounds good, sorry to hear about your car not running...I had the same problem until recently. Now I'm pissed that I broke my laptop. Does it need one on a constant basis, or just to tune/display. Because I am sure I could borrow, but mine is inoperative, as a stereo speaker fell off a high shelf and destroyed my previous computer. The lesson to be learned...don't box in a room with valuables, with a punching bag that shakes the whole room...

The AEM EMS is a standalone unit that replaces your stock ECU. It is superior to blackboxes such as SAFC's because it does not have to trick the ECU signal to work. That, and it is possible to have complete control over all of your car's variables. It requires ALOT of tuning and expertise; sometimes too much.

:iagree:
it is cheaper than a ton of piggybacks (aka safc and dsbc and such) when you add them all up plus it does not have to trick the stock ecu like aces said. i have not used it but i have downloaded the demo (although my lazy ass has yet to even unzip it  ). i would say that it is the best way to tune your car, end of story, but if i was just going with 15G's or smaller i would probably stick with piggybacks because they are so much easier to work with.
i have heard that the learning curve is steep but if you are building a car that requires bigger than 660cc injectors, it is worth taking a look at. i would suggest trying the demo and going to the aem forums discussed earlier
on a side note, tallskinny, what turbos and injectors are you going with? i am going to get some adapter plates made (ikonone = cheap ass) and go with big 16G's.

Im going with TD05 manifolds, new 14b turbos with a "custom" exhaust housing. Its steel instead of iron, and cone shapped. Fits the 7cm gasket but is supposed to have flow characteristics of an 8cm. So it should make more power at a lower psi than any stardard td05. However it could all be bull shit also. I guess Ill find out. My injectors are 880cc PTE - 385 shipped to my door. Gotta love that.
