ridge_runner
04-23-2004, 04:15 AM
haha, yea well the darts i have are pretty much like stock replacement heads, well im looking to be down in the 10s, those dart heads are going on my 350 the one thats 60 over by the way, which im puttin in my camaro by the end on the month, now the 383 im gonna have to save alot of money to finish that, the brodix track 1x heads ive been lookin at have a huge amount of flow, there basically race heads

have you ever herd of Air Flow Reaserch(spelling). they have some damn good heads. if i bought new ones i would probably buy a set from them. and you can even have them do anything you want to them before they ship them to you. plus you have many many choices, you can choose anything from angled or straight plugs and anything you can imagion. unless the proces have changed they are around $1200 a set.

68chevelle
04-23-2004, 04:20 AM
they start at 1200 anyway.

ridge_runner
04-23-2004, 04:22 AM

yeah i ment new. i have debated on putting EFI on my car. its not built for long cruses, but i sometimes drive it up to where we go fishing,( a 6 hour drive), and we go up in elevation and then my car just dogs down. also i wouldnt mind getting the little amout more MPG that i would get with EFI. i dont think it would be alot cuz i do have my carb tuned extreamly well, well until i switched jets and screwed everything up. do you like the TBI on your car. im not to crazy about it but it would be an easier swap wouldnt it?

ya i like it for what it's used for. and actually it's not in a car, it's in my 71 truck. it gets me where i need to go without costing too much but makes it a fun ride along the way. it's definatly a major increase in power compared to what it use to be. when i got that truck it had a quadrajet, a flat lobe on the cam and a chipped push rod and i was gettin bout a 1/16 lift on one of the exhaust valves cause of that. but still managed to roll a nice smoke cloud off the tires. i'm not crazy bout the stock tb and manifold that's on it, but i had to put her back together so i could get it outa my uncle's shop. but i did did build the bottom end of the motor to handle just about anything i wanna throw at it, from the melling high vol. oil pump, federal mogule bearings, to the fireball .488 cam. i may go to tuned prot yet, but it'll depend on if i get the money. if not she'll get a holly 670tb, and still haven't decided on intake.

Quadrajets are easy and cheap to rebuild. And as far as tuning them their are a lot of books out there that tell you the shortfalls and how to correct them. One of the hardest parts is deciding how to set your tune up:screwy: most of its just trial and error. You probably want a respectable tuning shop to dyno tune for the best setup, but that's going to cost you a good amount. I'd say your better off just rebuilding the Q-jet than going out and buying a square bore.
