Key stuck in ignition

Im having trouble getting the key out of my ignition, been having electrical problems lately (radio staying on after key is removed) so I dont know if this is related. Steering wheel column wont lock as well. Car is a 5 spd manual. Any help is appreciated. cheers.

I assume this is on your '96 Golf. The electrical part of the ignition switch was very common to go bad. Was this replaced recently? One posiibility is the mechanical portion had been damaged and the key may be coming out with the lock in the accessory position. It is also possible that the electrical portion has gone bad & is preventing the lock from fully turning back to the off position. You can try putting graphite lock cylinder lubricant into the lock, but it sounds to me like one of these is damaged & will have to be replaced.

Hey boschmann thanks for the speedy response I'll give the lubricant a try and see what happens, if not I suppose I have a date with the mechanic, appreciate the info!
