idle

I have a h22 and I have had no problems for the past two years now and last week I added on a crank and alternator pulley from unortho and now when I throw my car in nuetral and is still rolling my car idles up and down from 700 to 900 rpm but once I come to a complete stop she ildes perfect and doesn't go up and down. It only does it when I am rolling to a stop in nuetral and not when I am at a complete stop. I thought is was my idle air contol valve but wouldn't it do it at all time especially at a dead stop. The only thing I can figure is that the alternator is putting out a signal that the crank is turninig to slow now since the crank pulley is smaller and that is wanting to compnsate the voltage but why wouldn't it do it at a dead stop. I'm all messed up in the head and I need some help !!!!

I can't really answer your problem, but from what I hear, crank pulleys are BAD for your engine.

EDIT: found some common problems with crank pulleys.

-They rotate faster, being smaller, thus causing your alternator to wear out quicker from being run faster. Could be one cause for your jumpy idle.

-Most crank pulleys do not have a vibration dampener, and put unnecessary strain on your bearings as it doesn't keep them balanced.

There are probably more problems, but that's just something to get you started on. A jumpy idle from 700-900 doesn't seem like that much of a problem, but if I were you, I'd probably go back to a stock crank pulley. :2cents:

Your crank and cam position sensors are all out of wack... and alt. over reving giving your ECU a reading that it can't compensate for. go back to stock... it will save you from expensive repairs in the not so distant future.

How would it mess with my crank position sensor? Doesn't it only reads the position of the crank. What sensor do I have for the cam? The crank pulley is alot smaller than the stock one so that would rotate the alternator pulley slower or less times than the stock pulley would. I think thats right
