With my friends in mind... i got to thinking... i can only carry one friend with me if i go somewhere... And the JDM 2nd gen CRX's had rear seats didn't they? why cant my first gen? is it possible to put a seat back there? theres gotta be some space to put a seat back there if i rip that stupid lil... compartment... thingy out right? i donno... i was just thinkin.

Any ideas on how to go about this... or comments or w/e will be appreciated.

it can be done and it has been brought up before on this site and recently at http://www.redpepperracing.com/

here's the cliff notes of it, the JDM and EDM 1G CRX's came with the rear seat, the floor pan is slightly different in those cars so (assuming you could get your hands on one) it would not just bolt in, it would be pretty close tho, people have talked about getting a back seat out of a 3G Civic hatch or wagon which would fit the space pretty well but again would need modification to work.

so it can and has been done before but the bigger thing you have to worry about is insurance, the USDM CRX is a 2-seater car, there is no way to change that classification so that means if you ever get into an accident the two people in the back are not covered, if you ever get pulled over you can get a fine and possibly a vehicle inspection notice (those arn't fun, in BC here a chip in the windshield will fail you). it's a great idea, i'm all for 4-seater cars and if i had a CRX i mite even do that but you have to weigh in the risks with the legal stuff.

So with the 3g seats.... would you still have to get those other floor pans? And if i need the pans no matter what... how would i go about aquiring them? Do they ever pop up on eBay? :P

Why not just get an Integra or a Civic wagon?

I understand where you are coming from though, I've been in the same situation.

The thing is that the CRX was designed to be a fuel efficient car, not a tour bus. If you really want to get a back seat into your CRX it would require a large amount of metal work and relocation of your gas tank. The car will handle poorly and may not even stop due to the added weight of passengers! Before you do this, you have to ask yourself, where will your passengers heads go? Will you have to leave the back hatch open just so they can sit upright?

Anyway, just a thought.

ya... i dont think i'm gonna do it any more... it would be way cramped anyways and no-one would enjoy riding back there. So i just say forget it. Thanks for the input guys. :P
