I have a 1991 Grand Mrquis which is giving me incorrect fuel quantity indications. The indications appear to be correct until the fuel level goes below 1/4 of a tank. After this, the quantity displayed seems to be randomly selected when i start the car. If anyone knows how to fix this problem, I would appreciate some advice.

It may be the sending unit in the gas tank. Just a thought. My easy fix would be to fill up at 1/4 tank. :)

Working on a car can seem daunting, so just think of it as a bunch of separate systems. Simple.
Fuel system. Cooling system. Brake system, etc.
I'd go with Fred on this one. The sending unit is probably faulty. It's a simple electrical cricuit, and the sending unit is a potentiometer regulating voltage to the fuel indicator.
You'll might have to empty the tank, and remove the gas tank from the car to gain access to the pump/indicator.
Buy the $15 Haynes auto fix-it manual. It has great troubleshooting info.
