84 Monte wont stop running

i have an 84 monte with a 4.3 tbi and when i go to shut the car off, it dont want to stop running. it will keep on running, rough, like it's over fueling, and eventually it will shut off. where would i start to look for such a problem?

Your car is "dieseling"..
have your cooling system checked and timing.

it dont diesel. the throttle body does not shut down. it keeps dumping fuel. just cuts back slowly but sometimes is stops like it is suppose to.

Check your fuel pump or carb. Timing may need to be checked!!!

mine does the same thing and i was told that it was the carborator i am about to rebuild mine so i hope it will fix the problem i tried pumping the gas to get it to stop faster so it doesnt cause such a commosion and i think it helped

Try cleaning your carb and fill up the tank with some premium fuel - that helped mine a lot

The correct term is dieseling. The carb dumping fuel into the engine will NOT cause it to run alone. There needs to be spark also, or a level of compression thats keeping the cylenders moving in opposite attraction to each other. Possible timing problem at that point, or almost a definate one. The carb will continue to DUMP fuel if the engine is rotating regardless of key position or spark. The carb works independent of all other things..

Just try setting the idle down a little. I had to do that to my 87 Monte awhile ago when it had this problem.

hello..anyone see it says TBI lol...Throttle Body Injection..., it may be your timing is off a little , or u need to use some top end cleaner
