Does anyone know what the RF (Clarion) headunit/changer found in the '02 SE is worth? I may be looking to sell, but have no idea of value.
thanks for your help...

FYI, the in-dash changers are made by Matsushita (Panasonic); not Clarion. I don't know who started the Clarion thing, but it's incorrect unless Panasonic and Clarion are building identical stereos (not likely). If you pull it out you'll see the Matsushita sticker on the top.
In-dash changers are expensive, in general, so I would think that asking $250 would be a good deal for someone else who wants to upgrade and then maybe let people throw in offers. Personally, I wouldn't let it go for under $150 (exceptional deal), but that's me. It's really a pretty good head unit...just doesn't have preamp outs or remote outs. To buy an aftermarket setup with similar features it would run someone upwards of $600.

Nissans have used a lot of clarion head units, especially the Bose units. Last time I worked for Nissan(a few years ago) well Infiniti, that was all they used.
I've never looked too closely at the unit in the X.

Well, so far I've seen the single DIN single CD player, the double DIN tape/CD combo, and the 6 disc changer model and all of them had Matsushita stickers on them. Except for the RF systems, all the speakers I've seen have been Matsushita too. Matsushita, Clarion, and Fujitsu Ten (Eclipse makers) are probably the top three manufacturers though for OEM HU's and I'm sure Nissan uses different brands in different car models. So far I've only seen Panasonic in the Xterra though. Doesn't really make any difference...quality wise they would be similar.
One thing I noticed about the in-dash changer is that the changer portion is only the top half of the unit; just like my Pioneer in-dash changer. behind the faceplate there are essentially two single DIN units that share a common front panel. Not what I expected from Panasonic at all. The reason I find this interesting is that they do not offer a single DIN in-dash changer, that I'm aware of, for aftermarket use. If they know how, why don't they make it available? It's really a good changer...far superior to the Nakamichi in-dash changer I had (Quieter, faster change times...) and maybe as good as the Pioneer I have now (time will tell). Panasonic should sell it as an aftermarket unit fro use with their aftermarket head units.

Well...I never knew Nissan used anything but Clarion. Like I said at the time I worked for Infiniti and all those units were Clarion(though most all were Bose). First time I've heard of Nissan using Panasonic...pretty interesting.
Last time I checked they do offer a single din 6 disc, no tuner. But by what you suggesting the X head unit is most likely split, din changer with a din size tuner, with joined faceplate. So they offer it, just without a tuner.

Yeah, I saw the Nissan one for hooking up to the single DIN Xterra radios after I posted that. Still, I don't think Panasonic offers one in the aftermarket though. Of course they don't have a lot out there to begin with. I guess what I was thinking is that it's pretty good stuff and I wonder why Panasonic doesn't break into the aftermarket more.
I guess Bose will sleep with anyone! THe Bose head units in Audis are Panasonic! I had heard that the Nissan Bose units were Clarion though. For all I know they could all be coming out of the same factory and being stamped with whichever sticker is readily available.

It would only be of value to other Nissan owners.
