Help temp gauge dont work 1995 ford contour gl 2.0l

Well the temp gauge is dead never ever moves yet the fan still turns on when the engine gets hot but if my car ever overheats i will not know about it linkage possibliy or sensor?

Common problem with the 2.0L. Replace the thermostat sensor and the thermostat it self. Happend on mine 2-3 time's. It fixed the problem for me.
