AWD Honda conversions

Hey,
I've seen a couple FWD Honda's that have been converted to AWD using the CR-V driveline. One CRX in Canada and an Integra in Honda Tuning Magazine. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge about doing this? How much HP can a CR-V realtime AWD system take? What are everyone's opinions?

Doesnt work with any kind of power.

I remember reading somewhere that when you apply any kind of HP to the AWD train it explodes all over itself. Pretty much you could put it on a Civic with the right fabrication but if you tried to say add boost to it it would explode...

where did you see the awd crx, i have a friend that is going to try and do that to his crx

OK, So what blows up? I would think that the AWD clutch packs would just slip and get worn out like any other clutch. There are some pictures of the AWD CRX here:

everything I read suggests the drive train cant handle power. Let me see if I can find some articles for you

just take a look at the talon... it's turbo awd... you're lucky if the car is actually on the road 1/4 of the time. a guy i know owns one and it's always in the shop or garage cause something broke on it.

But then take a look at the WRX or the STI, or the Evo for that matter. Those cars make a lot of power from the factory and their respective drivetrains handle it just fine.

Yeah, there are definatley AWD systems out there that can take some power, but is the CR-V one of them? Where would the weak points be? Thanks for the responses guys!

so heres an idea, find a subaru at a junkyard, rip the drivetrain out of it, put it in a civc. eh? eh? :p

Doesn't work.
Building an awd Honda requires a ton of fabrication and money, making it not even worth it. For the same amount you could just buy a 94 tsi or something and build her up reliably. DSM's are only as unreliable as the driver pushes them and if you take care of the thing it will last.
