Ok I'm Back.
Now I have another problem. Here Goes....
When I start my car it turns right on but the idle drop really low then shoots back up. Once It comes up it idles fine until I drive the car a bit and stop at a stop sign or light. Then the car starts to shake and the idles really drops low. I'd say to about 200 rpm. It never gets low enough to actually shut the car off but it shakes like a B*tch. And its only when I come to a stop. When I put the car in park the idle goes back up to just under 1 grand.
Any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated. All the other help you guys have given me has been very helpful....

sounds like your torque converter is going out... since you said you put it in park then the idle comes back up i'm guessing you have a auto, also check your tranny fluid!

Yes I do Have an automatic. And I did check the tranny fluid. Shes good. Its to the top hole in the dip stick. What exactly would the torque converter being bad do? And is there any way to find out if it is bad?
Man if anyone lives in the Southern Jersey area and can fix my car I will pay them. As long as the price is lower then what a regular mechanic will charge me :iceslolan

Hey I was just in the car and I noticed that the car does it really bad when I first stop. Once I come to a complete stop it drops really low and then goes back up to about 600rpm which is still low. Also It will still do it if the car is in nuetral.
Do you think its a fuel delivery problem?
I changed the fuel rail from the 95 engine that I had to the 98 engine which is in the car now. I Noticed the 95 fuel rail had a line for the fuel in and a line for the fuel return. With the fuel rail off the 98 the car was wouldnt start up everytime and would only start when I relieved the pressure in the fuel rail. So that took car of that problem.
Could it be maybe a bad sensor? Idle sensor?
Dirty Fuel filter? Bad fuel injectors.
Any Ideas you guys have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Check your throttle body sensor...I think that is what it is called. My friend had a major rpm problem and it was that.

This rpm problem he had, was it where his rpm would shoot up sky high for no reason, without pushing on the gas? Mine does it to me when i put the car in neutral.

yeah his would idle at like 2500 and if he accelerated he couldnt rev past 3500

There are like 150 pages of idle problems. Find one that says exactly what yours does.

check your tps, and also look for vacuum leaks. those are often the things that cause idle and throttle problems. also go through the 6 bazillion things that joe posted haha. it'll keep you busy and is good info.

TPS, ISC, and TB are mainly the cause of the problems. If you don't know what those are now, you will by the time you find your answer on tuners. Good luck, get creative with searching.

Your CEL on?
I think the dropping down and then shooting back up could be the o2 sensor (front) but the shaking does not have anything todo with the o2 sensor.

The car will shake if it's idling around 200 RPM. :)

Well then it could be the o2, LittleGS I would check that.

JoeWagon I did look through almost all of them. But alot of the people have problems with the idle surging high. My idle drops low and only does it when the car is warm. When the car is cold it does not happen.I have heard that the coolant temp sensor could play a part in it. I changed the coolant temp sensor and the switch. I do not know if it made a diiference though because It was late yesterday when I finally got everything all together(changed the throttlebody and both sensors that are on it, I cleaned the throttle body out very well, changed the CTS and the switch)
But anyway I have not had the chance to figure out if is fixed because after I did that the idle went up really really high and now is jumping from 1300 rpm to 2300 rpm and just keeps doing that. A buddy of mine said that while I was at the parts store he sprayed starting fluid into my intake manifold while the throttle body was out. I dont know how much he sprayed but could that be the reason for the idle acting up now?
Any info would help. Thanks guys.

Check you plugs, what color are they. Black, tanish?

Plugs are more on the blackish side.
Whats that mean?

might want to change them. especially if you're getting close to 60K or 120K. also if you've had bad gas recently. or just for shits and giggles. you could be having problems with that. might as well change the wires too. OEM for both or NGK. Good luck

Yea when is the last time you changed them?
You might be running rich. Which brings back the o2, I still would check that. I have seen bad o2's and NO CEL, including my car

Ok guys keep the comments coming your giving me good ideas....
Ok I have one question...I have no idea what this sensor is it is located on the throttle body below the TPS sensor. I have 2 of these sensors, one from the original engine and one from the 98 engine....I noticed that if I leave the one from the 95 engine in the idle still is rough and still shakes when in drive and at a stop light. But If i put the one from the 98 engine the idle stays high as hell in park but then when I put the car in drive it drops to a grand.
Could that sensor be bad? If so what is it called so I can replace it. Could it be the TPS sensor? I dont know if the TPS sensor is the bad one because the sensor under the TPS seems to be the one giving me my problem.
Also could it be the O2 sensor? I just need to know what you guys think it is and I will go buy the part.
Oh and the Plugs are new and the wires are new as well. The plugs are really black just have a light black tint on them, nothing that would cause me to worry.
Also I wanted to point out that my car is really swallowing some gas.Gas doesnt seem to last me for shyt.

How much gas? Like what are you getting for mpg
LittleGSEclipse
04-22-2004, 08:14 AM
I really havent been driving the car enough to get a MPG reading. I wouldnt say that there is a leak or anything like that but I know I am burning gas quicker then I should be.
Could that be because, the Idle problems? o2 problems?

Well if the o2 is going bad, and it went to the backup fuel curve you would burn more gas. Also, if the idle is crazy like at 2500+ or that high it would burn more gas also.
Put the car in neutral and see what happens. About the idle and all.
Also it is always a possibility that it's the TPS

Ok,
Also could is be the idle air control valve sensor?I stated earlier that I had 2 of them. 1 made the car idle too low and the other made the car idle too high. Could it be that both of them are bad? Of maybe might have gotten damaged in the swapping of the 2 engines?
Ok So what should I do?

Ok Guys I found out that one of my problems were that the vacuum line going to the fuel pressure regulator wasnt plugged in.
But I am still having a problem here. The problem is this....
Once the car warms up the car sounds like their is an idle problem and you can see the engine move up and down. Its not really bad but it stays constant when the engine is warm. But if you look at the rpm's they are normal and the needle is not moving.
Once the car is moving and I come to a stop the car kinda lunges forward a bit. Not very badly but it still does it. It almost feels like th brakes arent working properly. But I just changed the rotors (brembo cross-drilled) and it also has new pads (EBC greenstuffs) So I dont think it has to do with the brake system. But the car also hops alittle if I let off the brakes when the car is in drive after I stop...
Well thats all my problems. LOL I Know I know I should just put the car out of its misery but it seems to me like its minor problems that I am over looking. I just put the new engine in it and its got less then 58k on it.
OH yea... whats the vehicle speed control unit or solenoid?
Is this for the cruise control?
THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU GUYS CAN GIVE ME.

Hey guys I have an update. I took my car to a mechanic yesterday. He told me that it seems as if the timing belt is off a tooth or two.Its a new belt so when it was installed it must have been put on slightly wrong. Would that make my car act funny? Kinda like its got a miss?
Also how hard is it to change the air bag? I purchased another airbag because the car that I purchased was in an accident and the air bag cover was peeling up really bad.
Thanks Guys
