Thinking about buying a bike

I think I've decided I want a bike to play with this summer. 1st, let me make it clear that I don't want it to go fast, and I don't care one bit about how fast the bike I get is. If it will run 70mph, I'm happy. I do, however, prefer the style of sports bikes, especially the 80's ones, so I'll be looking into those. I was wondering what you suggest I should check into, I'm a bike n00b and just want something I can enjoy riding. I'll be getting something used, preferably in the sub-$1000 range. Any suggestions? Also, is there a place I can go to look for bikes for sale?

Try EBAY and Cycletrader.com
Just about any early 90s bike can be had for really cheap. IE 90s Ninjas, Suzukis. Not sure if these bikes are to high but try the GS500s or older YZF 600s. They can usually be found pretty cheap and are really good bikes. Jus browse around ebay and cycletrader and you can a really good idea of whats in your price range.
