Hey everyone.I'm new to Supra and know nothing about them.So i need a little help.I saw a 87 Supra turbo in the paper, blue i dont know if it was a 5 spd...looked pretty good and miles he did not say.He wanted $3800 OBO.If i got it, it would be my first car.I dont really like the way they look...but then i'll only really keep it for a year or so.The other car i was going to get was a 92 3000GT SL then in a year i'll sell it and get a VR-4.I'm only 15...and a VR-4 is alot of power for someone my age.So would that Supra be a good deal? What engine does it have?1JZ-GTE?Or what? How much HP and torque do they have?
Also...i have been wanting to know how much a 94-97 Supra Turbo with the 2JZ-GTE engine in it would cost?Anymiles...doesn't really matter.Oh yea...and 5 spd. Thanks guys!

like waht projectsupramk3 always say, please do some research and search through the threads before asking questions. but i'll answer ur question. the 87 supra turbo has a 7mgte engine with 230 hp, 245 ft/lbs or so of torque. in my opinion, 3800 obo is way too much for an 87 turbo supra. i bought my 89 turbo automatic for 2300, some minor problems at first but at a very good deal. if u don't like they way it looks or just want a car to drive for a little bit, don't buy it. as for the 3000gt, i don't like any of them except for the vr4. the vr4 is very strong, but i think the SL version isn't even near the vr4. in my opinion, i'd prefer the 87 supra over the 92 3000gt, but the price is way too high. as for the 94-97 twin turbo supras with the 2jzgte 6 speed, prices range from 18 grand to 30 grand.

Ok...thanks bud.The reason why i think i'm going to get a 3000GT SL is my dad and i are going to go half and half on one. Then when i'm 16 he will pay my half and i'll get whatever i paid for as my half back then i'll get a VR-4 and he'll keep the SL.Maybe that makes since now.
Like i said befor....a VR-4 is alot of power for someone my age. Thanks again!

Don't be fooled by the VR-4 numbers, with a few minor mods you could make the MKIII faster, AWD is nice but you won't need it for anything other than launching and bad traction. Pick which car will make you happiest because you have to drive it everyday. The SL will be best for you right now because your young and probably not the best driver, you can get in some serious trouble with a turbo car if you don't know what your doing. Either way though if you keep researching and learning and modding you'll quickly grow out of the SL so maybe in this case the mistu choice (SL then VR-4) is for you.

Yea...not to start a fight but i drove my moms SUV with a little box trailer from Cali to Kansas (my home) with on one other then me in the car.All 1800 miles by myself.I did have my dad in a truck with a 28 foot trailer in front of me and in front of him i had my mom with a truck and a 32 foot camper behind it.But other then that...i was all by myself. Now a car is alot different then a SUV i know. But it takes a little more then your normal 15 year old driver to do that, not saying i'm the best driver in the world but lol.
If you want to know how a 15 year old can drive that far, i can explan. My dads a beekeeper and we take our bees out to cali (long story) and so we had 2 trucks and a SUV to take back home and only three drivers. So as you can guess...i drove the SUV...and my mom and dad drove the others. In Kansas...if you are a farmer you can get a farm permit...witch i have...and i was driving a farm truck so i was doing farm work.Oh yea...i'm really 14 but i'll be 15 in 5 months.
Oh my god...i talk alot.LOL sorry.
BTW...is the 87 Supra with the 7mgte a 6 cylinder or 4?

Cool story, but I'm not talking about normal everyday driving. I'm talking about how you do in skill situations, young/inexperienced drivers don't tend to do very well when confronted with problems. I was saying ice, water, traction problems, boost, knowing how to control the power under your right foot, and how to manipulate the car to do what you need it to. Even on the highway with a Supra one good puddle and one good slip of the throttle and the back end could easily go around if you don't know what your doing. I'm not saying you personally are a bad driver, but you need to seriously take a step back one day and know your limitations so you know what to work on and so you don't get hurt. Either way though I'm sure you'll be fine with either of the choices. Also all Supras are I6's, since the begining.
