I love the new Celicas. I think the styling is gorgeous, and the 190hp makes it even better.

Actually it is 180hp...but still the car is a great blend of power and new age styling. However I believe the new integra(seems) will be more powerful and is supposed to even take out type-r's. Can't wait to get one.

I don't especially like the new Celica GTS, but I like Celicas that are 1990 and up, especially my friend's '95 Celica. It looks hella cool, and has tons of mods.

As another moderator I guess I need to include my opinion too. Seems to be the popular thing to do. :D
Yeah I'm pretty surprised there isn't much traffic in this forum either.
Personally I like the new Celica GT-S. I'd probably own one now if I didn't buy my G20 before the new celica arrived. My payments would have been the same but my insurance would have been an ass load more.

I'm not a mod, can I still post. heh. I think it has the looks but lacks the power. If toyota could put the power of a supra into the styling of a celica, and make it driveable while still being barely streetable, I think they might have something. They also need to work on their VVTI <==or whatever it is. I've heard it's not designed all that well. It's a shame.

Hey y'all. I was just wondering how much a GTS costs. A friend of mine is planning to buy one, and wants to know the MSRP. What's the cheapest he can get one for.
enzo@af

I don't know exact, but I would guess mid to high 20K. I'd look for a used one still in good condition though.
As for it not having enough power...huh? 180 hp is quite a bit for a car in this class. that's 20 more than an Si, right? Zero to 60 has to be damn near that of a camaro V6, and probably beats a 'Stang V6...all for better gas mileage and better reliability.
Besides, there is still plenty of aftermarket for it.

First off its VVTL-i for GT-S and VVT-i for GT. Think its not a well designed variable-cam system? Don't live off of hearsay; I dont have the time to put it all in, so go read SCC's more recent issues, I believe they have detailed VVTL-i vs. VTEC comparisons and you will understand the results. Even though I am an avid Nissan enthusiast I did buy a Celica recently for a daily driver and good God, with a LONGER wheelbase and SHORTER overall length than previous Celicas (which already handled your mother), it drives like a kart; I seriously envy those Long Beach Grand Prix Pro-Celebrity racers... a road course destined for cars like the Celica. Good work, Toyota, but wheres your grand tourer?

heh, i liked trd's (or whoever it was) ultimate celica concept more... It seems like toyota is skipping the streetrace scene now when the gtfour and supra isn't being produced anymore... :(

Here is another limited production japan-ONLY variant we will never get to smell in the States:
Toyota Racing Development always comes through as an in-house specialty race product producer for Japan's gargantuan automaker. Their most recent turnkey machine is the Celica TRD Sports M. Putting out an even 200hp, it's not an untamed beast, but it is TRD's high-quality details that round up its unmatched popularity.
Toyota has already designed an overwhelmingly capable yet street-smart slot car for the masses. In natural form, it can overtake the majority of its class, but deliver enough refinement as to not feel that it was designed solely for the track. How about one that IS? Heavy suspension and flowing power from the 2ZZGE linked via a subtle yet unique aesthetic appeal, packages to bring the consumer the ultimate factory Celica. However, unlike its competition, such as the Integra Type-R, this creation retains the beauty of a street-legal tuner: creature comforts. While the majority of limited "race-models" deny air conditioning as well as other accessories, this Celica is built with the works, including the factory navigational system. So who would need this "junk" on a race track? Believe it or not, many of these rare elites live on the street. Only some are bought and used on the track, and of those that actually are, many lead double lives, pounding both types of tarmac. And if a diet is mandated, anyone capable of hard driving should be able to lose the extras.
OK, time to shut up and display:

Voiceless, are you referring to the yellow AWD turbocharged Rod Millen (and company...) F1 nosed Celica? That one-off is a masterpiece, but it seems to be taking a step backwards, utilizing the ever popular 3S-GTE (all-trac/GT4) rather than making developments on the newer 2ZZGE.
Anyways here is some more of the Celica TRD Sports M:

What's up guys? I own a 2K GT-S, and I love it! Believe me this car is quite quick for it's class!! With only a Cold air intake, I have been able to pull of 14.8's in the quarter mile. It has enough power to take Mustang GT's! I raced a 95 GT at the strip and took him by about 4 tenths of a second. I know the Celica is no match for the new GT's but it can take out the 94-98 stangs.

Sweet, no? Any car that's got OEM quality modifications (and plenty of it too) should be noted and taken seriously. I've seen too many cars with cheap mods that need to be replaced every 2 years because of the poor craftsmanship.
I should have created a separate thread for the Celica TRD Sports M; seems like no one else is making responses to this excellent production machine. However, I am going to make a new thread for the TRD Rod Millen 'Ultimate Celica'.

German or even european cars are nice, nicely expencive. love the way they look and drive but not too many people can affored one.this is where Japan comes in. Just for fun lets use Toyota:). Now lets take a relitivly new Celica supra make a few minor engine adjustments slap a TRD racing suspetion and to make things intristing rig it wit NOS. wheredidi get this idea? Fast and the furious. Now granted they used 150,000 to sup that huge piece of mechinary up, the car will take a stock porsh.
Morpheus XIII
08-13-2001, 08:40 AM
Well, it doesn't take $150,000 to built a "10-second" Supra from the ground up. Hell, it doesn't even take a 10-second Supra to waste a 996 Turbo. But if funding allowed, I would still take the Porsche. There is much more behind the emblem than raw horsepower and all wheel-drive.
gang$tarr
08-15-2001, 07:27 PM
the car could take a porsche? um no, it would DESTROY a porsche (well not a 911 turbo, but every other one) i bet it would be hard competition for a 911 turbo
That car is a Ferrari killer.... in real life the supra would have beat that Ferrari by waaaaay more than it did in the movie, but i guess they didn't want to make the Ferrari look tooooo bad :D

While on the topic of who's beating who and "movie magic", you all remember Gone in 60 Seconds, right? What was up with the 996 Carrera staying only a few feet ahead of the Civic (possibly Si)? Okay, considering that the Honda WAS an Si (stick 'n stock, other than simple bolt-ons, like the usually are) they would be pretty even for the initial 50 ft. scramble, but afterwards at highway speeds and beyond, the sheer displacement of the Porsche should have flung itself at least a few car lengths away from the Honda. I doubt the Civic had any type of forced induction (did you hear any turbine associated noises?) and it never even broke traction (truly high-powered front wheel-drivers are always loose). Even if the director wanted to maintain the image of a 'heated battle', there shouldn't have been this harsh misrepresentation of reality. (Of course, they were probably both going no more than 30mph, with camera trailers attached on various sides for the numerous angles--Hollywood is STILL fake to me.) MOST of the spoiler donned street legal econoboxes have too much bark without the bite to back it up. The scene from this motion picture has eternally placed a slight dent in Porsche's door, and for all time it will remain unforgiven.

well i am glad you all agree with me. but to give porcha a little bit of credit there is more behind the car then speed. the interior and exterior are buitiful. i would love to own one.( If i could ever affored it) Its a good thing i care more about speed and performance though. its nice that on my budget i can affored a very nice and guick car. and for about a tenth of the cost of a porcha.:silly:
Now for movies nothing is too far fetched for them to do. take a look at the ending to planet of the apes. i mean what the hell was up with that. any more hollywood is about big explosions and or corney love scenes. The fast and the furios was one of the few movies that i have seen recently and said to myself, ya that seems true. too bad more cant be like that.

Likely reason why not many new Celica owners posting in this forum is that they are on dedicated new Celica sites such as; www.newcelica.org (really good site/forum) or www.celica.net etc.
I am lucky enough to own the new Celica, and I'm a very satisfied with the car.
Great looks on the outside, sporty interior, great handling and good power potential to make it faster. (I'm waiting for the TRD NA 230Hp engine package to crack the Celica in to the 13's for 1/4 mile.)

180 horses may not seem like a lot, but remember that the car only weighs about 2500 lbs, which gives it one of the best horsepower/weight ratio's in its class.
A 6 speed gt-s is quite fast, and if driven properly (launch at 4k, rev to 8300) it can beat out cars that appear to be faster on paper.
I love it!

The 2000 and up Celicas look nice, but I'm not really fund of FWD sports car. The only body style Celicas I really like were the 2nd Gen and especially the 3rd Gen. They may be old, but it will look good if you were to spend some times fixing it. I'm glad I still have my 1985 Celica GT-S convertible. That Celica has been parked for the past 5 years, 'cos it need a major restoration. Someday, someday I'll get around to restoring that baby with a 7MG-TE in it. I told my wife that is one car I will never ever sell no matter what. For now, I'm driving my S14 (also a RWD 4 banger) with some minor mods. :flash:
