Resinater Broken loss, barrel still in pipe, about 10-15% air flow blocked.
Muffler filled with dirt, or something. black shi*.

Engine surges and sometimes dies when stopped .

i counteract the surge by opisiting gas intakes.

Tanny in unknown condition, along with timing belt. I just bought the car 4 months ago, been a trouble ever sense. should i replace timing belt. Moving to Ohio, hopefully with a running smooth car.

have you done anything with the O2 sensor? my bet is on that.

There are 4 86' Si's in Venice. mines in the semi best condition. except for the engine. one guy said he cut his o2 sensor and it ran just fine . in fact he said he macanilk did it.

im reading up on it right now,

can i disconnect it and reconnect it easly?

what the O2 sensor does is this (in a nut shell). it measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust and tells the ECU to inject a certain amount of fuel based on it's reading. if the sensor is disconnected or broken the ECU will simply go to a default setting which ends up being a very rich mixture; hence bad gas mileage, inconsistent idle and so on. so you can disconnect it and still be able to run but not always. your sensor is either disconnected or broken, you will have to figure out what it is (it should be in your exhaust manifold, can't remember is the 84 has a second one behind the cat, it mite)
there are other causes for a bad idle and the problem has been asked quite often on this forum so if you search "idle" or something like that you should find stuff
