Exhaust questions

Hello. I was wondering if highmounts cause any horsepower loss. I was also wondering what type exhaust system would produce the best results in terms of power and performance. Thank you.

No high mount or standard mount will make no difference in power. If you want to increase horsepower then I would suggest a full system. Slip Ons are pretty much pointless and are pretty much just for sound. Also the lighter the better. Read up on some full systems. The best bang for the buck is the Hindle Full system. Really good system.

Hindle Full system is the best bang for your buck. What about best with money not being a factor, not saying that it isnt. Ohh and what is it that is wrong with Micron, I have heard a lot of people talking shit about them and was wondering if what they had to say was true. I ask that because I was wondering about the Micron Serpent system. And I know I mentioned something about highmounts before but can you use a highmount with a full system like the Hindle or the Micron Serpent?

Well theres nothing wrong with micron performance wise or sound wise, its usually the FADE CANS that people dont like. For example most of the red to black fade cans will turn pink after awile. So for that reason alone people dont like them. The serpent system is a really nice system. Makes good power.

As far as the BEST full pipe, thats mostly preference but I will tell you that the Akrapovic has the highest dyno prooven power that ive seen and not to mention its one of the lightest systems you can buy. But in this case expect to pay. But really nothing wrong with the micron system.

A friend of mine has a fade to blue Micron on her R6 and it sounds NICE, and it looks nice.... but beware, they had a HORRID time trying to follow the mounting directions.

Paint exhaust? I doubt it. I mean it can be done but in order to make it look nice it would have to be in coats and would have to be clear coated and then it would prolly not hold up. Pipes do not get super hot but they get warm enough to ruin paint. Im sure you can have it powdercoated or anodized but forget painting.

How is it that Micron colors their exhausts?

They are all anodized.

There is hi-temp paint (up to 1500*F). I used it to paint the header pipes on my new exhaust black, but other colors are available. Only catch is that it has to be cured (heated at high temps) within 8 hours of painting it... and unless you have an oven MEANT for that, that means you have to paint the exhaust and get it back on the bike so you can run it for an hour. It didn't happen in my case b/c the bike didn't start at first like we'd hoped.

Did it still turn out alright and if so do you have any pics of it?

I can get some pics of it when I'm home this weekend... I only painted the pipes, not the can... the can looks like hell, but there's a whole other story to that. The pipes look fine, I think.

D&D doesn't have a "real nice sound" IMHO... it sounds like a GD weedwhacker at full throttle. If you WANT that kind of sound, go for it. If you want a richer sound, Two Bros. and a few others whose names I can't think of atm, are more likely contenders.

P.S. I didn't get any pix of my bike this weekend. Sorry. I'm in the process of moving, so give me a week or two to get settled.

I had the yosh rs3 full titanium exhaust on my 99 R1, it sounded nice and throaty and added noticeable power while dropping the bike like 10-15 pounds.

I plan on saving up a couple grand to get the full akro system for my 01 R1. Although I still am debating the 04 R1 or the 04 ZX10r..... im so confused.

How much weight does the Akrapovic full system take off? I looked on their site but didnt see it.

I am new to bikes and all but I have heard nothing but good things about the ZX-10R... and think it is real nice, if I recall correctly, that it is the lightest in the litre class and has amazing handling.

Yeah it is the lightest but for some reason I still like the R1 better. Just looks so much better IMO.

But anyways not sure the exact weight on the AKRA system but lets just say you will prolly lose 20 pounds if spring for it. But with most systems you will drop a good amount of weight.

I have a Hindle on my Z, its an awsome pipe. Sounds great, good power gains, and was a good price from kneedraggers.com.
