Can anyone tell me how to go about replacing the dash lamps in a '98 Mercury Villager? The instructions are not included in the user manual.

Thanks, Peg

In case you haven't had any success yet, here's how you go about it.

1. Turn on ignition. Set parking brake. Shift selector into Low. Turn off ignition.

2. Carefully rock the switches in the instrument cluster (I/C) bezel (headlights, cruise, hazard, RR defrost, etc.) side to side to remove them. Unplug them and set them aside.

3. Remove the screws attaching the top of the I/C bezel to the top of the dash. The bottom of the bezel snaps out.

4. Remove the four screws securing the I/C to the dash. Carefully turn it horizontal to access the back. The lights are #194 bulbs in the black sockets that twist in place.

5. Reassembly is reverse of disassembly, except I find it easier to reinstall the bezel switches first, then connect the wires as I'm putting it back in. That way, I don't have to worry about snaking the connectors through the empty holes and guessing which is which!
