I need some troubleshooting information. The check engine light has come on. There is no unusual noise coming from the engine area. I am checking all fluid levels. Any suggestions other than that?

Your check engine light comes on for any number of reasons. It would be good to get a mechanic to hook your car up to a diagnostic machine and get the code which will tell you exactly what the problem could be.

What year and engine size is your car? If it is '96 or later then you have to have the codes read out by a scanner. If you have an AutoZone car parts store near you they will read it out for free. Most garages will charge you 1 hour labor charge just to read it out. Most common issue on the '97 626 was a P0421 code. An oxygen sensor problem.

If your oxygen sensor is lazy then your car will check engine light itself for various reasons and under various applications, anything from driving 80 mph to having the car loaded down .. either live with it, or get the o2 sensor replaced [ its the front one on most cars.. easy to fix]
