avant quattro vs outback

I'm considering trading the wife's 2002 subaru outback for a 2000 A6 avant quattro. I really like the car but have no previous experience with Audi's. Anyone have any comments on the comparison of the two vehicles, especially reliability, repair cost, maintenance, etc. Also, how necessary is the suggested premium fuel? With fuel costs where they are today, do you really need the premium?

thanks

Hi Andy - Sorry for the delay in an answer - I presently have a 04 A6 Avant and did look at Subaru wagons. The Audi had creature comforts that Subaru didn't offer (memory seats, dual climate control, etc). Premium fuel is killing me right now and I could probably get away with mid-grade but for a $1.50 a tank savings, I won't do it. Audi is luxury, Subaru is more laid back. Audi repairs certainly would be an issue as the car is out of warranty where your Subaru is still under warranty. I'm not sure if I would take a chance eventhough I have had no problems with my new Audi. Hope this helps! Cheers //Mark//

For what you've listed as your requirements, well an Audi just wouldn't fit the mold. Reliability isn't up to par with Subaru as well the costs of maintainence, parts, and fuel are all just to high for Audi. If you really want something higher class than your current Outback you should check out the 2005 Outbacks. They are hot cars that blow the previous models out of the water. All that luxury and performance that Audi might have over your Outback would be meager in comparison to the 2005 Outbacks. For some more info you should check out the site in my sig...
