Ding Ding Ding Lamp Out

At speeds above 70 MPH, I get an intermittent ding (same tone heard when door left open and key in ignition, or when gas is low).
It starts out at a single ding, then after a few more miles a second ding and sometimes it develops into a constant ding, ding ding. The "Lamp Out" indicator flickers while the dinging is going on but not always.
Had it in to the dealer last week and they could not find anything.
This past weekend I drove the freeway again and the dinging started as usual but on the return trip (it was raining all the way home) there was no dinging.

check ground connections to tail lights and rear electrical. Also check the door switches for the lights and the seat belt warning system. Don't rule out a bad bulb even if it is "working"right now. The front battery to body cable and the front lights could do it to, but that's unusual, it usually from the bed.
Hope I helped!

This is driving me crazy, I have talked to all my buddies with Dodge trucks, from 1981s to 2004s and not one persons truck "dings", we all have buzzers and not one of our trucks ding or buzz when the low fuel light comes on. What truck are you driving that "dings"?

You and your buddies don't let the fuel get that empty, or the radio is up too high.
On '91 and later models with the convenience package (standard after '96) the fuel light will come on when It reaches 1/8 tank or less. The "dingy":) dings once, when the light comes on. It'll do it again if you shut the truck off and restart. It's just one extra ding after the seatbelt dings. Some times, if you're drive up and down a steep grade, the light can go out and come back on and "ding" again.
The same is true if the "check guages light comes on, or a door ajar light comes on.
That's where the ding-blasted thing comes from.

Slant, you are probably right about the music being to loud, but none of our trucks "ding". When my low fuel light comes on the is no sound at all. On all of our trucks the lights & doors are wired to a buzzer. I know this is trivial but maybe the trucks manufactured for the Canadian market do not come with the "dinger".

My grandfather's truck was built in Mexico, and his truck has a ding if you open the door with the key in the ignition. My truck was built in Warren Michigan and it has a buzzer.

I think we're all just one ding away from the looney bin.
Ding is, if you have the convenience package, the ding comes with it, If you have the buzzer, you don't get the ding.
Easy way to straighten this ding up is to remember that the damn ding is annoying, anyway.
I've got a two tone buzzer in an '86, but I had a dingy in an '84, go figure.
Most of the later '96 up, here in VA have a ding, and the fuel light/ door open/lights on ding, too.
So, getting back to the post,
Advn2rs, did you get the ding fixed or not?

It's a bulb somewhere. I took mine to Dodge and they couldn't find it either. I pulled off my taillight covers and there it was. The leads to on the bulb had plastic melted over them causing intermittent contact=ding....ding...........ding. Replaced and good to go for a week and then the other side did the same thing. Bulb=easy fix, but what is causing this problem is what is the bigger question. Mine were both brake bulbs. Try it.

Anyone know how to disable dings? I have 2004 RAM 1500 (5.7 Hemi, 4x4)
I spend a lot of time in my truck.
Often times I pull over to make/take phone calls.
Sometimes during these stops/phone calls... I take off my seat belt to access other things in the vehicle... my laptop, note pads, etc... When I pull over... put truck in park, and take off seat belt the silly thing starts dinging every 2 seconds and is driving me insane.
I can understand dinging while in "drive" position on tranny, or vehicle is moving, but not when I am sitting, parked, with vehicle in park and turned on to use the AC!!!! That's plain wrong :D
Any ideas on how to disable or correct. Does anyone else have this problem?
TIA,
Slang

I drive an 03 Ram and have come accross with the same problem. I'll try checking the taillights and see if I see anything, another thing has anyones "Check Engine" Light came on yet? Do you have any idea what might be causing it on a car this new?

Thanks for the update. I hear there is a sensor under the driver seat that controls this "ding" functions.
I have yet to investigate further but if I find anything I will respond back and let you know.
Regarding the "check engine light" I have not run into this issue yet, but I only have about 20K miles on my truck. It's pretty common for manufacturers to set the computer to come on at about 50-60K just so you bring it in for a regular check-up.
