Transmission/Overdrive problem, Please help!

I have a 97 Galant with automatic transmission. If the overdrive is turned on, it shiftes to neutral around 35 Mph. If the O/D id turned off, it won't shift to 4th gear, it stays in 3rd and if I'm driving 60-65 Mph, the Rpm is at or over 4000.
I've just got the transmission fluid changed, it did not solve the problem.
The car has a high mileage, 103K.
What do you think? Does it worth to fix it? Knowing that my A/C compressor is broke too, and the timing belt needs to be replaced also.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

I am having the same problem with my O/D in my 1992 galant. Goes into neutral when i push the O/D button in. Have you found the problem yet?
Thanks

I have checked it out today, and it seems that it is an internal problem. They are going to take the transmission out and rebuild it. We'll see.

Its called the "end clutch" inside the transmission. Actually you can get to it by removing the side cover on the tranny. The seal likes to break, then burns up the clutches. Someone could possibly fix it in the car. If this was the actual problem.

Good luck

Replacing O/D clutch under that cover should fix your problem. Make sure you put right fluid.

replacing O/D clutch fixed my problem. Parts around $65 , make sure everything is very clean when you put together. Also flued is very important, get the one recommended by manfctr.
