Need help with 92 cavalier - clutch problems

I need help!! I have a 92 cavalier that won't let me change gears. Even with the clutch pedal to the floor, the engine is still engaged. My mechanic changed the clutch hydraulic cylinder which he says was leaking, but the problem persists. Can anyone please advise?! Does the cylinder need to be bled? If so, how is this done, as there appears to be no bleed valve (according to my mechanic). What about the hose from the cylinder to the clutch - can fluid be leaking through this & into the clutch assembly? - Thanks.

Yes, any hydraulic system needs to be bled after you open it. You bleed it by cracking the fitting on the slave until nothing but fluid comes out when the clutch is pressed, then close the fitting and release the clutch. You can also then crack the fitting on theclutch master cylinder to bleed any air that might be trapped up high, but the masters usually self-bleed small amounts of trapped air thru the fluid reservoir. Bleed it just like brakes.
It's possible that your mechanic screwed up.
I hadda reinstall a slave cylinder once because the "mechanic" installed one bolt correctly and the other one backwards (where there were no threads to grab onto) and the slave worked itself loose eventually and pushed itself apart (the seals), thereby leaking out all it's fluid.
