motor mounts

Sandy's 2000 Cavi

I just would like to know if anyone that also has a 2000 Cavi ever had problems with their motor mounts.

I have a mechanic friend that thinks that my mounts are messed up. He pushed on the engine and it moved back and forth. I only have 45,000 miles on this car and didn't expet the mounts to be gone already since it's only a 2000.

Any help anone can give me will really be great.

Thanx!
Sandy

the stock mounts are usually pretty loose on these cars especially the top one on the front of the engine. chances are it'll be fine if you leave it the way it is unless there are cracks in the rubber. if you upgrade your mounts to polyurethane aftermarket ones your car will feel more responsive.

The engine mounts are supposed to give a tiny bit so mechanical stresses are not directly absorbed by what the engine's attached to, but because the engine can pull harder than you can-it doesn't appear that they move much if you pry on the motor front to back with a prybar or such.
If the engine leans easily or a great distance over (2" or more) when you put the car in gear with the brake held (if it really jumps around), your mounts are prolly in need of replacements.
I've seen people who don't like to stop their car when backing before throwing it in drive and stomping on the gas trash a set of mounts in a week's time. Brandy new ones, too!
