stroke or bore?

what gives an engine high-end power, stroke or bore? if an engine has a small stroke and a big bore, does it create more power at a higher rpm? are there any drawbacks?

high rpm and horsepower is a large bore and short stroke, low rpm and torque is long stroke, small bore. think of it as piston speed, with a small stroke the piston travels less distance, longer bore the piston has far more travel, meaning more work. not a big deal for torque, where the added stroke gives added leverage and torque, but makes it harder to spin at high speeds. larger bore means more surface area for the combustion to press upon, meaning more hp. shorter stroke means less work. hope that helps.

i'm just gonna guess and say that the bore gives it better high end power. just because generally the longer the stroke the lower it red lines

Increasing the bore will not build more RPMs but more power within the original RPM range, (power band). Stroking a motor will build more torque and more HP but lower the RPMs, because you're increasing piston travel. By destroking a motor, (decreasing piston travel) and increasing the bore, lets say bring it back to it's original cubes, will raise the max torque to a higher RPM inturn increasing your H.P.
On the street the stroked motor is the ticket but on the strip horse power is king. Inorder to make HP you have to turn big RPMs.
There's alot more to building any style motor than just strokin it or finding a bigger hole.
