Hi! I have a 1990 chevy s-10 with manual transmission (43,000 miles). It seems to have emotional problems. Upon startup for the first 5 minutes of operation I never know what to expect.
Personality #1: It has rough idle and hesitates when I step on the gas as much as 3 seconds! I thought this was a blocked fuel filter at first, but it's not.
Personality #2: It shakes when I put it in 2nd gear, but idles ok and is fine otherwise.
Personality #3: Dies at intersections, smells of gasoline. I thought this was the air filter, but it's not.
Personality #4: Once in a while it will freak me out by running fine
The strange thing is: ONCE IT IS WARMED UP IT RUNS FINE. These personalities only surface during the first few minutes of operation. They are more extreme during cold weather, but still happen in all seasons. I have tried changing the air filter, fuel filter, EGR valve, oxygen sensor, and of course good old sea foam. A friend tells me the early fuel injection vehicles all behave this way, and that I should just put up with it. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks.
