Oil Light Flicker

I own a 1999 Chrysler Sebring JXI with about 36000 miles on it. Whenever I am sitting at a stop light or idling i notice sometimes, especially when the A/C is on and the Idle of the car is around 500 RPMS that the Oil Light will flicker on and off really faint. It has been occuring more frequently now at stop lights. To solve this I have found that if i put the car in neutral and rev it to about 650-700 RPM range it will cause the light to flicker. I took the car to a dealership and they couldn't really give me a direct answer except that it might be a bad engine. If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know.

Thanks,
Jim

I have the same problem with my 97 sebring, my oil light will flicker on and off if i'm at a prolonged stop. I rarely use my AC so i really don't know if that's a factor. If i throw it in neutral the light will stop flickering and go off. if you find out anything on this please let me know.

Strange this oil light flicker my 1996 2.5 V6 JXi Convertible suffers the same problem.
Current miileage is 68K but the engine has been well serviced and it seems strong not burning any oil.
On a recent service I did notice that the oil pressure warning switch did appear to have a little oil leaking from the electrical connection, I plan to change this ASAP but do not know if this would contribute to the flicker.
Has anyone tried to raise the tickover by 50 or a 100 rpm since that is all it seems to need to get rid of the flicker i.e. slipping the car into neutral.

The more I look into the Oil Light Flicker on other forums the more I,m convinced that the switch is the culprit, I have now ordered one ready to install.
My Sebring is generally very reliable no major problems the CD player is a bit of a pain refuses to skip tracks, I also have the odd oil leak from the transmission I'm due to change the transmission filter in the near future and will rectify this at the change.
It does appear that the leak is not from the transmission pan but is from a stamped metal plate at the back of the engine part of the auto box system but it appear to be just a rubber gasket that is leaking.
I hope to remove the plate (held on with about 10 10mm bolts) cut a new gasket and reinstall to cure the problem.

my ABS light does the same thing, so does the other lights, and my car is jerking real bad when i go into first gear, i need to find out what could be causing it. The car was in an accident and im wondering because the motor mounts are bad if that would cause everything to go bad, like the tranny and engine are jumping

I Too Have A 2001 Sebring Sedan With An Oil Pressure Indicator Light Flickering. I Haven't Had Any Engine Noises Or Oil Leakage So The Dealer Said The Problem Was The Oil Pressure Sender Unit (relay). This Is Just A Faulty Sensor According To Them. They Couldn't Find Anything Else Contributing To This Malfunction.

If you have the 2.7L engine in your car, read the posts in the Concorde forum. My wife's car is in the shop now with the same problem. I fear it is the beginning of a major failure coming on. Our dealer has replaced sending unit, pressure sensor/switch, oil filter...I told him about the known problem and he is contacting Chrysler. Luckily, I purchased the extended warranty! This is a known problem withthis engine and many are experiencing total engine failure!

Totally cured my wife's 2.5 V6 Oil light flicker by changing the sender unit, we have done about 2k miles since change in all sorts of conditions and it has not missed a beat.

When my 96 v6 oil pressure light started flickering I had just come from the dealer where they did an oil change and they had put too much oil in. Went back, they did a re-do but that did nothing. They replaced the oil sender unit but that did nothing too. These were done at 66k, I now have 103k and the light sometimes still flickers on. Not everytime but only when the rpm dorps to 500. I turn on the AC to boost the rpm and that gets it to stop. I've had a lot of "experts" look at the problem and nobody knows for sure.

I had the same prob on my 97 convt., all you have to do is slightly up idle to 600 or 700 there is nothing wrong with the car. it happpens to alot of late model cars

the oil light is connected to to a PRESSURE switch if you are low on oil, or the engine is not running at manfacture's spec. this will cause low pressure and cause the light to flicker, also if switch is dirty or has a bad ground, good luck!
