The weirdest thing happened today..... I was driving home and all of the sudden i hear this click sound and my doors unlocked and the tachometer, speedometer, gas gauge, and Heads up Display (HUD), all stopped working! after this happened, when i got home i turned off the car, and turned it back on hoping it would just start working again, but....nope, it didnt. I checked a bunch of fuses and didnt find any blown ones.... oh ya, and now when the car is running (like driving down the road) if i turn the head lights on, there is a non stop dinging sound, like if the door was open. ....i dont get it...this is crazy. If anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it. ..thanks..

Man 2 things. Could be the ignition switch(the cable bunch under the the dash/driver's side) or the BCU(Body control Unit) going Bezerk
In my case when the Ignition Switch failed the DIC worked whenever it wanted and would reset out of the blue

alright, i'll try to look at the ignition switch and see if there is any obvious problem there. but where is the BCU? oh yea....something i left out..... my tachometer and/or speedometer have all of the sudden stopped workin 2 or 3 times before this happened, but those 2-3 times all i had to do was hit the dashboard and they would all the sudden jump back up and start working again. but this time, it really screwed up bad. ....but im going to go look at the ignition switch real quick, thanks.

The BCU, I have never looked for it on my GTP. But the by the description you are presenting is more like ignition related. The BCU does not know that the car is running to activate the car instrumentation. That would explain the chime when you turn the lights on at night :lol2:.
Sorry but I just imagine you and all of the sudden the car starts chming and all the instruments going bezerk

ok, i looked under the dash, and jiglled around some wires, and checked all the connections i could see to make sure everything was connected and i can seem to find any problems. im taking my car to have the tires balanced tomorrow and my mom said we will mention what's goin on to the mechanic, maybe he can trace the problem down easy. thanks for ur help.

Well that is better suited to an electromechanic. And in my case when the ignition switch failed everything looks normal the problem was inside the connector itself. But have an electromechanic look at it. Looks like the BCU does not detect that the car is supposed to be running and behaves like the ignition key is off. Is like when you turn on the light and open the door that the chime would come on. If you think about what is going on is like the car being off and you playing with the controls

yea, ...i wish i could just squeeze the right connecter and make it work again, lol. but i guess its not that easy this time. thanks again for ur help.

Sorry, but if is the cables under the dash then it is not that expensive. What is expensive id finding where the damn cable broke

today, after driving the car again the following symptoms occured: very hesitant acceleration starting out, extremely slow blinking turn signals, an all of the previous symptoms are still goin on....this really really sucks

ok, ...i just figured out what was wrong with all the stuff on the dash... there was a little 10A fuse blown, i think it was called I/P Electronics Ignition Feed. i put another 10A fuse in it and everything on the dash lit up just like it used to, all that is working fine now. ....but i just tried to start the car and it just barely turned over... like the battery is really low... im going to jump it off my moms car when she gets home. Im hoping that the battery just got drained b/c of that blown fuse. Hopefully everything is back to normal now. Ill let ya know what happens when she gets back.

well, it cranked up and ran perfect yesterday, and i drove it today, ....it actually works better than ever...lol... but on a sadder note, the fuse blew again today on the way home, so...it looks like im gunna have to keep replacing fuses unless i can find where the short (or whatever else it might be) is. or maybe it would be safe to put a 15A fuse in place of the 10A?? prolly not....but maybe..?

Do not install a bigger fuse. Your car has a Short Circuit and if a cable heats to much a fire could develop and would be more expensive or catastrophic than installing 10amps fuses. Just go to an electromechanic. Show him the fuse and the circuit it goes and let him look for the short circuit. If you install a bigger fuse any cable could over heat and burn the sorounding material causing a fire on your car.
Do not install a bigger fuse. :nono:
