I have a '97 Chev. 3500 Silverado, used, w / power seats, locks, windows. It did not have any remotes when I bought it. I think it originally had door lock remotes. How do I find out if it did have factory remotes and how do I purchase replacememt remotes if so?

Try this.....
Transmitter Programming
If they key is in the ON position during the programming procedure, the horn chirp will be disabled, if the key is in the OFF position, the horn chirp will be enabled. The horn will chirp when the lock button is pressed two times.
When reprogramming the remote control door lock reciever, All transmitters must be programmed at this time in order for the transmitters to operate the vehicle. Transmitters not programed at this time will not work and the procedure will have to be redone with all the transmitters.
Ground pin 4 to pin 8 of the data link connector (DLC). The receiver will respond by locking and unlocking the doors, and activating the liftgate window release (if equipped) within 2 seconds.
Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously on the first transmitter to be programmed until the locks cycle (approximately 10 seconds).
Repeat step 2 for up to four total transmitters to be programmed (if available). The receiver will respond by locking and unlocking the doors and activating the liftgate window release (if equipped) within 2 seconds.
Remove the ground applied to the DLC.
Lock and unlock the doors in order to verify the transmitter operation.
If your door locks cycle [clunk(lock)-clunk(unlock)], then the truck is equipped. If they don't cycle it is not equipped.
Go to http://www.nvo.com/chipkeys and check there for a remote. He sells tested remotes for reasonable prices.

Take a lttle trip to your local dealership. Find out if it came equipped for your year. Then go on ebay and buy a couple, then prance back to the dealership and have them program them for you.
Don't buy the remotes from the dealer they will fuck you on price.

Just be careful buying on eBay.....some of those guys just kinda guess at what cars the remote works on when they post the auctions. A LOT of them are not correct. Dealers will charge a lot of times if they know the remote was purchased somewhere else. But they can pull the SPID info and tell you if it was equipped.
