Gtech Pro Competition 1/4 mile time: Evo 8

Well the car is basically bone stock (K&N filter). I met up with my buddy Steve, whom has a Gtech Pro Competition (Well that and he has a sweet 11 sec. Z28). We talked for a little bit, and then he helped me with the setup for my car. Apparently you have to tune in alot more variables with this new Gtech system (Vehicle weight, do a few runs at different RPMS, etc.). I had him in the car with me when we tested, so it would probably go a little quicker if he wasn't with me (He weighs 220 pounds). We had to do two baseline 60' runs. My first baseline run was 2.2 sec. He told me to take it easy as it was a baseline run. My next 60' time was 2.4 sec. He then told me to go all out. My first all out run produced 2.1 sec. 60'. Not bad, but nowhere near what this car's potential is. I then brought the rpms close to 5600 rpms, and dropped the clutch. This produced a 1.960 sec. 60'. Heck yeah!!! My next few passes were all 2.0 sec. I think heat soak played a large role in that (I was doing back to back runs. Also the wet roads probably didn't help :p ). We then decided to test the 1/4 mile run. The first pass I won't mention, as I didn't complete the 1/4 mile, cause the car's boost was definitely being hindered by lack of a cool down period. I parked the car on the side of the road, popped the hood, and let it cool off. After about 15 min. we went back out. I launched the car above 5000 rpms. We both got that sick carnival ride stomach feel as the car leaped off the line. When I grabbed for second something weird happened, all 4 tires peeled out. WTF!!!!!!!!! Despite that, and a tad bit of an uphill grade I still got a 13.7 sec. 1/4 mile at 101 mph. Not too shabby. Take out the extra weight of my buddy and i'm 100% positive I can cut a 13.5 sec. 1/4 mile.

My G-tech pro was 120 bucks, plus shipping, the pro competition is 250 bucks plus shipping. Can't wait to do a run when I get new front tires :D

i was thinking of getting the apexi rev/ speed meter. it will remove my top speed limiter record hp and 0-60 and 1320's and all

Yeah his system costed him $175 I believe (That's what he told me). It even tells you when to shift (A light flashes at a pre set rpm level). Heat really effects this car. After the cool down I could tell that the car flat out hauled. I bet the turbo was rather hot, since ai didn't take off any real cool down time. When I go to the track I expect consistant 1.9 sec. 60' times, since I won't be carrying 220 pounds of extra weight :p Hopefully i'll see a few AF members at the track in May.

Did you happen to get a horsepower reading at all?

Bleagh, my buddy says that horsepower reading is way off (For instance once it told him his car had 700 whp, when it dynos around 440 rwhp. Another time it dynoed really low for him). It measured my power at 189awhp. I'd say that is off with a 13.7 sec. 1/4 mile :p

yeah, turbo charged cars are noticeably slower when its 90 degrees out compared to driving at night with a cool breeze. there really sensitive to heat. hot air hitting the intercooler isn't helping at all, but cool air hittting the intercooler is good. you might find that your boost is stronger when you first get in and take off compared to driving for 60 min and punching it.

yeah on a regular run its is off you have to run it JUSt for hp
i believe you have to launch it moderately just to get everything counting then short shift into 2nd and take it to the redline... then shift into third for a little bit and boom you have your "true" HP... which should be lower then your WHP as it factors in drag and all that junk too...
but i dunno how accurate any of it is... it told me i have a 183hp (kind of high) and according to it i run a 13.9-14.1 and this was on a level stretch plus i ran it both ways (stock WRX) :iceslolan maybe i got some sort of factory freak though.. i dunno

Put a 220 pound in your car Brodie, it helps out your 1/4 mile time tremendously :p

You guys are thinking about the original Gtech. This is the Gtech Pro Competition. It is actually dead on. My friend runs exactly the same times at the track as he does with this form of gtech. Usually the mph is off (A little higher).

the new g-tech is supppose to be pretty much right on, its not the one you guys are talking about. plus i say 13.5 is a good time for somone who hasn't mastered there car yet, i think thats pretty accurate

This is the Gtech Pro Competition
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2474850012&category=38655&sspagename=WDVW
There's a MASSIVE difference between it and the first gtech system (The 2nd generation gtech is the pro, and the latest one is the competition). The competition can be used to not only measure 1/4 mile times, but also your 60' time, lateral G's, 1/8 mile, and it also acts as a shift light. They are fairly expensive as you can see.

You should look into getting a hood for that beast, keep the cool air circulating.
