Sounds like the clutch master cylinder is shot, or the line between it and the clutch slave cilinder is broken/loose.

There's a lil' reservoir on the firewall about where your clutch pedal rod woukld come thru.
that's the clutch master-it's prolly empty.
Loo down the line/hose from it that goes down to another cylinder on the transmission bell housing.
Anywhere on that line or that reservoir you see fluid (it's usually regular brake fluid) is where ya might be leaking. If it's the hose-unscrew both ends and replace it and bleed the air out of the system-doesn't take long.

you are right it looks like the slave clinder broke but it is inside the transmission housing do you know a way of repairing this with out having to pull the tranny?

Well, I haven't seen the setup on your particular car, but most have a plate you can remove to replace/service the slave cylinder/fluid line. You should be able to access what you need to from there. Sgould be a couple bolts and the linkage to the clutch to disconnect.
I can't imagine having to pull the tranny to service the slave cylinder.
