Has anybody raced a mustang? I know some people and they say that they dont get traction for my balls because they are so light. From what ive seen of them, they are pretty hyped up and arent that fast. I know some are but those have been worked on a little bit.

right before i left to visit a college i raced a s/c saleen. whoo man that was a close race. he beat me by 2 feet. but once those 2 feet where their we stayed even up to 120. basicaly if you hear a whine froma stang be careful dems fast! as for base and gt stans thier pushovers if you got an lt1 or ls1. (stock for stock) i have a 97 z28 runnin about 380 hp 400 tq something like that and that was w/o a doubt a fun race.
but word of the wise. NEVER claim your car is faster or other cars slower. you never know what evil lies under the hood.

305 carb tpi or tbi?
I had an 89 GT and ran 14.42 at 98mph with a 2.21 60 ft...
My camaro with a 305 bone stock TBI ran 15.72 at 87mph... No where near my GT and my GT was a bone stock convertible 5 spd with 2.73 gearing!!!!! Thats just as fast as any LT1's and this was in a heavy full loaded power everything leather vert!!!

its tpi. the 5.0 might've been an auto too because it didnt seem like he was shifting, it was still funny.

ive heard about those small block stroker kits. to be honest i dont know what people mean when they talk about stroking an engine. what benefits does it give and what else needs to be done to the engine?

My mods were hooker cat back and Crane HI-6 when I ran the 15.7
and it did do it
hell I am running a 16.3 up a mild grade with a trans going and bad valve seals now!! you guys are so stuck in your ways you dont ever pull your heads out of your asses to actually see anything.
yeah the mustang might have been an auto. Mine was a 5 spd. All mustang guys tell you to shift around 4500-5000. I shifted at 6200. What people dont think about is shift recovery. They would shift at 4500-5000 and it would put them in a lower point in their power band while it would put me in a nice meaty spot on mine.

Stock TBI's are low 16 high 15 cars.
Which is why I am able to pull a mid to high 15 with my car with minimal mods that and I am a factory posi car. So off the line traction isnt a problem though with 170hp it wouldnt be a problem.

and yes I will throw the tbi at the first honda that rolls by....

well if you got a catback and ignition you aint stock, and gen was talking about stock ones ;) also most TBI cars were open rear'd so the posi helps, and probly wasnt though of with what gen talked about it.
oh and im curious, what parts did you use, and where did you get them, to build a complete 350 from carb to pan for only 500 bucks??? hotrod magazine wants your number. ;)

We gteched my grandma's 3.0 5 spd eclipse at 14.81... its only a 3.0 200hp motor. and torqueless.

Well my buddy andy was selling an L98 1991 Corvette shortblock with 20,xxx miles on it. He delivered it to me for 75 bux.
Then one of the local dirt club guys was selling a set of heads he didnt know what they were but he had upgraded them with 2.02/1.64 valves and rebuilt them. I found the casting # offered him 150 and came home with them. Then my training manager from one of the auto parts stores I knew had a new in box Performer RPM someone had returned so I picked it up for 50 bux. lol Then I found someone selling a 750 holley double pumper for 75 bux lol so I bought it. I got pics of the motor in my new thread. So I guess actually less than 500 unless you count headers and the Y pipe. you count that then almost 500 bux.

they have 3.0L eclipses?? I though they were 2.2 Turbo, or might be 2.0 Turbo
Twin89s

00-up GT's are 3.0L 200hp V6's
They run pretty nicely. A lot smoother revving motors than the 2.0 4G63 motors. Or the 2.0L 420A motors.

Oh, duh, I forgot about those 3th gens, aren't they 210HP? I don't really like them, they went away from the Eclipses performance roots.

04-21-2004, 10:23 PM
different years different rates...
They are still just as fast as a GST just dont feel like it because you dont hear the turbo spool up. But they are just as quick.
There are 10-11 second 3rd gen Eclipses out there.

damn, so basicly your build was alot of luck and good timing ;) i got the same deal pretty much, a 80,xxx 350 block out of a 99 tahoe, complete with internals, pan and heads, for 100 bucks. and yup, they were the 062 casting vortec heads :) but im an idiot, and instead of taking that and runnin with it, im gonna probly wind up buying a custom billit crank for 2200 bucks, set of baby bearing 6.125in rods for 600 bucks, set of forged lightweight pistons for 400 bucks lol. and still only be making 450-500hp, but hey, at least ill be certain that no one else anywhere has my engine setup, and it will be heritage cool :) guess originality is worth the price of admission eh?

hey twin 89's, i think you need to go down to the drag stip and see for yourself. Theres no way in hell they are that slow. I would even bett money on that they run faster. My camaro would go a hell of alot faster when it was stock. When it was still stock, its raced those fast audi's and beat them, there quick too! Now you need to get your facts straight before you go spoutin off facts that aretn even true. You sound about as smart as a pothead thats had a couple abortions.

GTECH ECLIPSE= 14.81
GTECH CAMARO GOOD TRANNY=15.7 Cant remember the .7X
GTECH CAMARO BAD TRANNY UP MINOR GRADE = 16.3X
Its my experiance. As far as the Camaro's being that fast look at the weight and power. As far as the 2000 Eclipse GT running 14.8. Thats about right. As far as beating an older GST they werent that fast stock sorry man..... They are just quick after modding... lol until crankwalk anyway lol hahahaha
As far as my combo. yep just benefitted from good timing.

I some how doubt that a 3rd gen Eclipse can run that without som serious mods. My friend has a 2nd gen TSi with a ghetto rigged boost controller @ about 12-16 pounds, and he only runs around 14.5's. I haven't met a person yet who'll take a new Eclipse seriously.
And back to the origional purpose, I've raced a '94 LT1 383 and won 1/3 races cause of serious traction issues, and I thought that I had them....
Other races.
I took him off the line very badly but then he caught up and I was about at his rear wheel the entire time. We got it on tape.
