Crayzayjay, You close the thread, because you refuse to listen to an oppinion. Maybe forums arn't for you. So this is a continuation of that thread!
You quite clearly state that the Boxster is a sports car. So, a real sports car needs sat nav, leather seats, electric roof, traction control abs etc, etc, the Elise is closer to the definition of a sports car then the Boxster can ever be. My daughter has one. I have an E-type jag s1 3.8 roadster that my wife gave me for one of our wedding anniversaries. That is a sports car. Ok I know that times have moved on, and i know that the S2000 has power hood and leather seats, but the fact of the matter is that cars like this demand driver control.
If you get into a sticky situation with the Boxster, it will help you out. If you are a purist driver, you shouldn’t need gismo's to help you.
I know that my 911 has a rear-engine set up, I'VE OWNED 13, and SOLD 429 to other people! And for your information, the term Retard is quite offensive and out of context, so I’ll thank you not to use it.
I bring a valued point to this thread too. This is an opinion based on over 40 years of driving some of the best, and most iconic cars the world has ever seen, and my point is, that the Boxster is a good car, but its a dreadful Porsche, and no sports car.
For the record, the motoring industry defines a sports car as RWD, 2 seat, Soft-top, Front engine, Manual/Selectable gearbox. This includes cars such as the AC Cobra, Alfa Spider, Aston's DB Volante series, BMW's Z1/2/3/4, Caterham 7, Honda S2000, Mazda MX-5, Mercedes SL and SLK, Morgan Plus 8 and Aero 8, All TVR's, and the Westfield cars. So what exactly is the Boxster then?
And I'm not a 911 snob, fact of the matter is that if I had £30K to spend on a Porsche, I know that I would have a better car with a second hand 911 than a Boxster.
You seem to be stuck on this mid engine thing. Just because the engine is behind you, doesn’t make it the best handling car ever. I suggest you try driving other cars, and then make your mind up.
And just what is the best 911 then, I'd be interested to know, as it seems I have no idea how to choose a car...
All of my cars have a purpose.
My E-type is my pride and joy.
My RS6 is for the dogs, and load lugging/holidays etc.
My S55 AMG is for the frequent cross-continental trips that I make.
My 911 is for driving to work everyday (and it handled beautifully with the recent snow fall), and
My SL55 AMG is my weekend fun car. (It’s soon to be an SL65)
My Wife has an XKR Convertible at the moment, but is changing it for a DB9 Volante in a few months.
My daughter is on her second Elise, as she is a driving fan, and it was the only car she wanted. My elder son is mentally disabled, and can't drive, and my youngest son has just had a Smart Roadster Coupe, as he is only 18.
So it seems that people who like, predictable "sports cars" (and I use the term loosely) are not as good at driving as they think they are, and where's the fun in predictability. If you think the Boxster as a sports car, you are deluded. The Boxter is nice. But it's not the best at anything it does. It's mediocre, it's the safe bet, and it’s a bit fast. Which is why I find the Boxster rubbish! Does anybody else agree with these points?

* I closed the other thread because it was first started in 2001, kept being revived for no good reason, and it was about time it was closed.
*You made your point, i made mine, so dont tell me that forums arent for me; if they weren't, i wouldnt be a moderator here.
*The word retard was used in retaliation to your attempt to insult my intelligence.
*Your definition of sports car is completely flawed. It doesnt have to be front engined, and the fact that you think a sports car is supposed to have a soft-top says it all. As does your belief that the Z3, SLK, Alfa Spider are sports cars whereas the Boxster isnt. Putting those cars in the same bracket as a Caterham / Westfield is ridiculous.
*An Elise is more focused than a Boxster but that doesnt mean a Boxster isnt a sports car. You can turn off TC in the boxster so no, if you mess things up, it wont help you out. Certain cars are rawer than others. The Elise is no-frills, the Boxster isnt. It needs an extra dose of power to help make up for that, but at the end of that day not much handles like an Elise. Like i said, aimed at different markets. But even the Elise is getting heavier. Its just the way sports cars are going these days.
*I agree with you 100%, that £30k of mine would be spent on a 993 rather than a Boxster. But this is in no way a reflection of the Boxster's ability. The Carrera just appeals that much more to me.
*This thread is closed, for obvious reasons. When a moderator closes a thread you dont restart the same one. Especially if its to pointlessly bash a car. You admitted it handles, the S needs less than 6 seconds to get to sixty, which is pretty fast for a relatively affordable car. If you want to start a comparison between a Boxster and something else feel free to do so, UNLESS it's already been done. Use the search function in the Car Comparisons forum before posting.
PS. im well aware the fact a car is mid-engined doesnt make it the best. but the Boxster is praised and acclaimed by just about everyone who has driven one. Yes it needs more power? Why? Because that chassis is so damn good it can handle it. "The Boxster is a good car but a dreadful Porsche?" It handles better than most 911's to date. And to answer your question about what the best 911 is, it's the GT3. That's if you have any interest of actually driving a car rather than being a passenger. A 996 TT is safe and predictable. As you said, where's the fun in that?
