1997 Explore 4wd Low Light Blinks

After Car Is Started 4wd Low Blinks, Tried Moving Selector
Out Of Auto To 4wd High And Low, Indicator Light Will
Not Come On. 4wd Will Not Engage.

Two things. The transfer case is known to leak fluid from the rear seal. At this age I would drain it and refill anyway. When low on fluid the wet clutch can stick and give you the light. When I bought my 97 it had only about a pint in it when there should be almost 2 quarts.

If you ever get the flashing lights, it won't reset on its own. You have to disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes to reset the computer. My light hasn't come back on in over two years.
