Hi again, did anyone hear about a recall for all bypass valves for AEM cold air intake. I was told that if water is sucked up the foam they use gets wet and goes into the engine and cannot be cleaned out. Did anyone hear that. My friend just got a new intake and they now come with a special airbox and say not to use a bypass valve. This worries me because i have had a cold air with valve for a while now.

In voluntary cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Advanced Engine Management, Inc. (AEM) of Hawthorne, California is voluntarily recalling about 3000 AEM Air Bypass Valves sold to consumers by independent distributors and retailers between August 2000 and January 31, 2001. Under certain circumstances, the Air Bypass Valve (constructed of 2 plastic pieces sonically welded together with a silicon diaphragm and foam spring on the inside) may come apart and, in certain cases, the diaphragm and/or foam spring may be ingested into the throttle body, sometimes forcing the throttle to stick in an open position. This may present a driving hazard to consumers who have installed the AEM Air Bypass Valve.

Full info on AEM's voluntary recall:

If you have a unit that is covered under the recall, they will fix it free.

in a honda/acura book i read by mike kojima there was a section saying the valves do work and has a pic of a intake with the filter in a fish tank full of water with the bypass valve sticking above the water and it had a vacum suckinkg throught the pipe.if that helps i dout it was rigged but i hope they work good because ive had one for a while now. i was wondering if it is ok if i have my bypass valve betweeen the end of my aem intake and the throttle body?because i see alot of people on there intakes in there preludes they have the valve in the muddle of the piping.

I'd stick with the middle of the piping. It was engineered to work that way by the company.

heres the deal with the recall, if your bypass valve is yellow foam on the inside, GET IT REPLACED!!! if it is a white silky material, you're fine. the yellow foam, when it gets wet, it comes apart, so you end up with pieces of faom and water in your motor instead of just water. they replaced the yellow foam with the white silky material. hope that helps. peace.
